question about game saves and reinstall

OK I recently had to reinstall D2, when I reinstalled the game I started it up and my character was still there. Seeing everything went well I exited and installed the LOD expansion. When the install finished and I started the came my saved characters where no longer there. I went into the save file in the game folder and all the files for both my characters seem to be there. I really don't want to have to start all over so I was wondering if anyone knew something I needed to do to get me save files to read. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind I just had to upgrade from multiplayer to full. I thought I did a ull install but I guess not. Thanks anyway, I'll try to pay attention next time

Always be aware of patches as well, once a character is upgraded to a newer patch it will not be visible at lower patched games.
