Set drop, does it matter where? *spoiler?*

Post by badboyd22 »

Hey,
I just made this help with 44% change of finding magic item. Now Andareal always drops a set item :p but ok, my question:
Can she drop al set items? or only the lower onces? or High also?

Lower once: like set chainmail, set boots.
Higher once: like set gothic plate, set acient armor.

Thx

Item dropping in Diablo II is quite complicated. Each monster has a certain level, and the monster level decides the certain range of items it can drop, and a certain chance to drop each item. Very few monsters can drop all items in the game - only a few act V superuniques (ie monsters with names who are always at the same place in the game) at Hell difficulty can do that.

Andariel does not always drop a set item, but since she is a boss monster her chance of dropping magical items including set items is higher than for a normal monster of the same level as her. Monsters drop higher quality items the further into the game you come, so at Normal difficulty, Andariel can only drop very low level items but in Nightmare she can drop better items and at Hell better still.

Gothic plates and Ancient armours are still normal items, ie they are low level items so those you can find at Normal but not from "Andy", it's too early in the game.

Hell Meph runs is the standard way to get items :D Start with Nightmare Meph runs to equip your first character, you will quickly find some good items :)

I always found the highest level set and unique items in (Hell difficulty) Act 5 ice caves, like the ones that lead to the Ancients barbarian guardian guys. Some number-crunching Diablo II maniacs in a D2 newsgroup years ago broke down the statistics and determined that that was the place to look, say for Natalya's set. It worked for me, found a bunch of stuff even with pathetically low MF.

I found Nat's "scissors sawayaah" claw there, then lost it due to a Battle.bet disconnect while trying to transfer it to another character. It still hurts to think about it.

Yep. There are good places for each item. A Stone of Jordan for example is most likely to be found on Nightmare Andariel.

My character has about 370% mf and still has trouble getting good items. XD
