First Character

Post by porto »

Hello,
I'm new to the game and I will mostly play solo. I would like to know if there is a good build out there to explore all the game fairly easily so I can create a character on my own after. Like I said I will be playing solo.

Thanks in advance.

I guess there are 3 things that I like in a build:

1) survive (dying is no fun)
2) kill enemies
a) mobs
b) bosses
3) fun

I don't know what you would consider fun so that part you will have to explore. The patch of the game you have installed also makes a difference. Ternion was insanely powerful before patch 1.20. That is a spirit skill. After the patch it is still good but not insanely good. But if you are pre 1.20 any build with ternion maxed will crush the game.

Personally I like melee builds and I think a good one is the warden. You have the defense masteries defense skills (shield block) and the piercing damage of hunting.

Earth/Spirit is a good build because you have lich king and core dweller meaning you have high survivability.

Corsair gives you rogue poison that makes everyone slow, confused, and fumbling combined with defenses shield slam that also slows them and spreads the poison to 3 attackers. High survivability.

Conqueror gives you attack goodies of warfare along with defense shield skills if you go shield and weapon.

Druid is a good caster build I had fun with.

All in all I think any build can be good but some have a hard time surviving, doing damage, or being fun. You will have to experiment. Oh and just because a build is hard to take through legendary difficulty doesn't mean its not fun in normal or epic!

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

I'm also fairly new and the key advice I would give you is to be very careful when you read strategy guides and forum postings that address builds. This game has changed significantly since it launched and alot of hot builds that you might read about just aren't very good anymore. Alot of nerfs and boss boosts have occured!

I made the same mistake twice trying to pick a build and now I have characters that can't seem to cut it.

Look at message/guide dates very carefully to make sure they were posted after the most recent patch.

I'm still trying to find a balance between a fun-to-play build and a powerful one. I'm on my 5th character now :)

I'd say try a Paladin. With his Storm Nimbus built all the way up to the maximum he's a one-man army. At least in normal... All the way up to Babylon I could kill almost any normal foe with an arrow or two.

But try any classes and find one to suit your style. Spirit mastery is cool not only because of the Liche King but also Life Drain can heal you in the heat of battle (and harm your enemies).
