Armor Level and Effects On Leveling

Post by Bobster »

How much of an effect (if any) does the level of your armor have on raising the level of its required skill. Let me clarify with an example: My melee fighter has level 60 and 61 melee armor and she is at 68. Like weapons, generally replace armor if I find new outfits that are at least three levels highter than my current armor. I hate doing this when replacing a rare item for a bare bones low armor rated piece of clothing just because it is three levels higher than said rare item. Will sticking with (relatively) low requirement armor impede my progress in leveling up my skill classes?

The required skill for a piece of fighter armor is the melee skill. And what armor you wear has no effect on experience gained. There's no need to upgrade to a higher leveled armor if it's not better than what you have on regardless of it's level. If you are lvl 68 and wearing a lvl 50 unique armor there's no reason to wear a lvl 68 armor unless it gives better bonuses than what you have already. (those bonuses are up to you, you may prefer the lvl 50 unique even if it's armor rating is lower than the lvl 68 armor if it gives you some other more desired advantage, like more strength or weapon damage for example.

My lvl 88 mage has lvl 65 set boots on and lvl 76 unique boots in inventory that have twice as much armor. If I wear the lvl 65's my max dmg is 7532. If I wear the lvl 76's my damage is only 6252. Obviously I wear the lvl 65 boots (lower leveled ones) in this case. Can't pass up an extra 1280 dmg just for 26 more armor. :) And there are so many other bonuses on the items and then combined with other items, it can get pretty complex and very hard to decide what to wear.

Hopefully I understood your question and this helps.
