NPC Chats??

Post by JessicaElytis »

kk, first a one sentence mini-rant.

What idiot QA let DS2 go out without a PAUSE feature in the game when NPC's trigger chat sequences near battles?

kk, rhetorical rant question over.

Now, since the above is true, does anyone have a way to be able to see all the NPC chats? I've not taken every NPC through DS2, but would like to just to hear/read the chats. Some (like the ones between Deru and Lothar) that I have heard are hilarious. The thing is, most of these chats take place right near spawn points, so you hear like 3 words before the mobs attack, and you can't pause while in the chat sequence.

Also, does anyone know of any other combination of NPC's that interact with each other? So far, I've only noticed Taar/Deru and Deru/Lothar.

Yeah, I am in full agreement. I mean there were some cool banters between Taar and Deru, but I missed them because monsters swarmed me during the conversation. I felt totally ripped off.
There were also some cool ones between Vix and Deru that I noticed as well as Eva and Deru. That's why Deru is cool to have in the party, not only can she dish out sick damage, but she instigates some cool dialogues.

I'm not sure if there is any overview on the web with all dialogues, i guess not... :(

Well technically these conversations are not very well implemented, they work like speaking one-time-traps on the map (because party members can't really speak).
If you step now in such a trap then the party will be checked for a coulpe of possible member combinations (mostly about 3) and if any suitable combination has been found the corresponding conversation will be played and the trigger removed afterwards - thus no chance again even if you come along another time with different party members as before.
So this sadly has some chronical weaknesses, however mods may partially provide some alleviation.
Totally modded.

I don't use mods. The one I tried made my saved games useless and I've been gunshy ever since. :o

Hmmm....as all the NPC chats have sound-bites with them, is there a way to pull them off the CD? I'm such a computer idiot, but wouldn't those files ahve to be .wav or mp3 or somesuch?

Yes, I've recently ranted about the same thing, in

http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/dunge ... 90622.html

still didn't get the mod, though :o
Sartan is a funny guy, giving you the i'm-so-strong-and-handsome banters, and Vix will flirt with Finala (one way only :( ), and of course Deru is just great. I wish there were more of them, maybe someone admiring the leader :D
Kitchen Witchcraft : Of Magic and Macaroni - a blog about, well, a witch in the kitchen.

The dialogues are stored sentense-/part-wise as MP3 and indeed you could open the game resources with the tankviewer from the toolkit.
However the file names are rather cryptic - act and talker are recognizable but nethertheless it will be a big puzzle, only combining the data from the conversation trigger/'trap' with the conversation list can give exact information what fits together.

Side note about using mods - sadly GPG hasn't found a good mod concept allowing customizations while preventing online cheat matters. :(
Mods now will turn the game into a different game version and you can not go on using your old savegames - but fortunately there is a tool called All*Saves importing them automatically at every game start.

Well this is no invitaton to use mods now - it's an invitation to complain at GPG because the game is far below its potential - some things like the green ring have become even worse than in DS2beta.
I mean on one hand there are so many party conversations (that cost a lot of money for speakers and editing), on the other hand there is no official patch to ensure the gamer always can listen to them...
Totally modded.
