About that Mako...

Did anyone else find driving it extremely annoying at times? Such as when you hit anything that isn't the ground and you flip over, or when you get stuck on things. As much fun as this game is (and trust me it is one of the funnest games I have had the pleasure to play) this tiny aspect of the game frustrated me to no end at times.

Or when can't get up a mountain because its to steep, I had to land on a planet several times because I got stuck.

it was like the controls were too clumsy to me if you just barley moved the Joystick it would turn on you

Operating the Mako

Indeed the controls are very touchy and the camera angles can sometimes make driving (at least in the direction you want) difficult. Took me a while to get the hang of it. Still working on firing the weapons with any degree of accuracy whilst hauling ass to avoid enemy fire.

It's fine

It's not too bad, for all the places where its hard for the mako to climb if you turn around you can usually find an easy slope to get to where you need to to go. Also the camera isn't great but it just takes some time getting used to.

It is not that hard to shoot accurately while dodging enemy fire. All you have to do is use the jet booster things to dodge and when you land the crosshairs should still be fairly close to your target. That's just what I do and so far it has worked pretty well.

The Mako is a pretty sweet vehicle, but the controls for it are terrible if you ask me. Pushing forward on the left thumbstick should make the Mako go forward, and pulling back on it should make it go in reverse, no matter what direction the camera is facing. Instead, whether the Mako goes forward/backward depends on camera orientation, not vehicle orientation. I think this was a fantastically terrible idea, because it makes going in reverse in those desperate times dodging enemy fire a total mess. It's cost me several Makos. For instance, if I'm shooting at something to the back-right of me and I want to go in reverse to turn around quickly, I instinctively pull back on the left thumbstick. Instead, this makes me go forward because that draws the vehicle closer to the camera. Then I run into a rock, get stuck, then I get shot a few times, and I die. Ugh!

To be honest, they should have followed a control scheme for the Mako similar to how Halo's vehicles respond. Not because it's Halo, but because the control scheme works. It's simple, and just feels right. I'm always thinking in terms of vehicle orientation. I could care less where my camera is facing.

I've played the game two times through. My fat fingers and I just found that you can actually zoom using the Mako's guns (DUHH!!). Hey, that just made the Mako ten times better...for me!! LOL!! :o

I didn't much care for the Mako. Perhaps if I had been able to upgrade it and customize it in some way, I would have liked it better. As it stands, I felt I spent entirely too much of the game piloting it. The controls took a long time to get the feel of and it still lacked the maneuverability I would have liked.

Hopefully it will be easier to control in the PC version coming out...
My first playthrough on Xbox was frustrating to say the least... :)

Don't hold your breath, BlueSky. Mako is as bad as ever, in the PC version.
