I want Xan who do i dump and who do i keep

IMO drop xzar for xan (if you REALLY want xan...i prefer xzar)....you'll also have to take a new character (i don't want to say you more..)take Shar-Teel or Kivan IMO

Another possibility is dropping Imoen and Khalid and take Xan and Shar-Teel (and dual her to thief....)
Let me know what you think of this...

All my time through Bg1 the only npcs i know/(found) are Xan,Zxar,Monteron,Imoen, Kaigain, Kivan,Branwen , Jaheira, khalid and viconia is there realy 6 others?

Yea, there are a ton more. There are a total of 25. If memory serves me right, you can get a whole list of them at the gambanshee bgate part.

I dunno if possible to separate Xzar from Montaron. According to my knowledge Xzar and Montaron are coupled NPC just like Khalid & Jaheira, Minsc & Dynaheir.

There is always the jerk way to seporate a couple. Strip em down of all there equipment and send the head long into a feirce enemy. You now have a nice scout of the land and someone you didn't want out of the way, and there partner still in your group. Hehehehe

@Tonson : LOL yep that's the one hillarious thing to do, and when the char died the other will scream "Nooo !" I remember that when I trash Xzar or Kahlid Or Dynaheir

I found most BG1 NPCs to be so-so. Ones worthy of note:
[*]Imoen (best thief, and best Mage after dualling)
[*]Minsc (great tank, very strong)
[*]Branwen (best Cleric)
[*]Xan (good Mage and funny as hell)
[*]Dynaheir (good Mage, but not as funny as Xan)
[*]Kivan (give him the Gauntlets of Ogre Power and he out-classes Minsc in everything)

To get rid of paired NPCs in a friendly way, just send one into a building before dropping them. They won't be able to come and talk to you and take the other along.
