Unique Drops and Necro Builds.

Post by Craig »

Firstly, how unique are uniques? They seem a lot rarer these days, afair I've only seen two with my lvl 40 Amazon, although I've just brought her out of retirement (kicked Baal tail too!) so there may be others I've forgotten. Just wondered about others thoughts on this.

Also, I'm aiming my new Necro on Bone, and Curses. With a small amount of golem support. But I'm coming down to having umpteen skills to use, and getting confused between them, Curse and teeth, or Curse and attack or Curse and Poison dagger... Then we add in having to find Bone armour halfway through the fight, or get destroyed. This is why I gave up on assassins!

Any ideas?

I still go summon (yes, I still play this) and the reason that most don't is because people complain about lag. The two builds you mentioned are still used and uniques are easy to find these days, especially when bots do the Baal runs. However, poison and bone charms are pretty expensive these days, so you may want to take that into consideration.

If you're going to play a bone necro, you're going to have to master 5 of the 6 bone skills. Particularly, Bone Spear, Bone Prison, Bone Wall, Bone Spirit, and Teeth. Your bone skills won't do much damage if you don't. Then you will need to put 1 point into clay golem and golem mastery. The golem can slow down enemy players that it hits and can take the blow of oncoming homing missles. Then you'll want to look into getting Decrepify and maybe Lower Resist. Lower Resist will only be useful when playing with other players who use elemental magic so LR isn't necessary for you to get. Then, I guess you could put 1 point into Revive and Summon Mastery. Though, you may not want to get Revive. You'll mostly want to master those 5 bone skills. 1 point into Decrepify is all you'll need with all the gear you get to increase your skills.

Bone necros aren't very affective against monsters in 8 player games. They are very, very effective in pvp, though. Summon Necros are the most effective build against monsters. Poison Necros are somewhere in between.

I don't like the idea of getting bots to do runs or anything like that, I'm not trying to tweak, or grind or whatever peoples call it these days.

I don't intend to play PvP either, just Co-Op, but I'll take all of this into consideration.

I was going for Meleemancer more than anything, but Bone will probably be my skill of choice.

I suppose I'll just have to get used to all of the different skills. Thanks guys!

Caden pretty much said every thing about bonemancer but I'll add something. Bone spells do Magic damage, and I'm not sure but there is no way to increase Magic damage through items -Ormus robes and such. So you should wear +skills items and that can reduce your defensive capabilities. Bone Spear will be your main attack so crowds will be dificult to manage. Summoners btw are excellent crowd controllers. And poison damage DO NOT STACK!

From Synergies?
Ah, yes. I meant from synergies. Since the introduction of synergies, Bone Necros have had to master all the bone skills in order to be effective. If you master 5 of the 6 bone skills, your Bone Spear will do +280% more damage. Even then, you won't be very effective against monsters.

Bone Necros really only shine in PvP. You will have a lot of difficulty against monsters in Co-Op. That doesn't mean you can't still have fun playing a Bone Necro.

If that is the case, there are 2 kinds of meleemancers that are effective. The first type is the poison meleemancer. Here you will just master the poison skills and attack with a dagger. Use Dim Vision or Bone Prison to keep enemies under control. Dim Vision will require multiple points as the duration is cut in nightmare difficulty and moreso in hell difficulty.

The second type is a bone meleemancer. He can use any weapon, because you won't be using poison dagger. He will max Bone Armor and its synergies. Bone Armor will give you added defense. You will use bone prison or dim vision to control enemies. Putting points into curses like Decrepify and Dim Vision is better than getting Bone Spirit or Bone Spear.

Whichever meleemancer you play, you will want to put 1 point into clay golem and fire golem, with a few points into golem mastery. Clay golem will slow enemies down and fire golem will attract enemies away from you. You can't have both summoned at the same time. If your golem dies, you can easily resummon it so you don't need to worry about making him very strong.

You may want to use a shield and in that case you will need high dex. Block rate is dependant on dex, your character's level, and the % number on the shield. The higher the level you are, the more dex you need in order to keep a high blocking rate. The % on the shield description is not the % chance you have to block with it. Your % chance to block is viewable in your stats screen. 75% block rate is the max chance you can have to block.

I've already been doing some of these things, high dex, increasing Bone armour, I have looked into poison dagger, not sure if I want to follow that route. IT takes up a lot of mana I could be using on curses. And I'll probably only put a few points into some of the bone spells, but not too few.

Thanks guys :D
