dwarven fighter/cleric

I wanted to start a dwarven fighter/cleric
and i just wanted to know what kinda of stats i should get and what profiencys and spells. who i should group with and what items i should get.

my priority for stats is:
wis + dex most important.
con, str, cha, int (in that order)

proff's, any melee weapon (that's useable by clerics, (blunt or spiked) and a missle weapon (sling) you will be fine.

starting equipment:
2 hammer or mourning star or mace, sling, bullets, large shield (always use large shields), heaviest armour avalible, (splint) helmet.

make sure you can carry / wear all that gear.

spells, i prefer spells that hold / disable targets:
the only spells i use w/ any frequency are:

entangle, hold person, silence 15', cure light wounds, animate dead, dispel magic. slow poison.

Whoah - I never "jump all over somebody"
I'm just stating that by getting all that knowlegde upfront is getting the whole game served to you, and I wanted that person to be sure of that.

Ideally you would want the following stats:

Str 18/00
Dex 17
Con 19
Wis 18
Int (whatever)
Cha (so high that other will join you)

This might be hard to get and maybe you don't want so maxed out a character. Look at the tables in the end of the manual in order to find a good compromise.

You don't have to learn cleric spells, you get them all from your God. Memorize them all once to see how they work. Then you'll find your favorites.

As for teaming up with NPCs, look at the NPC section on this site. I'll give you a suggestion, though:

Montaron - Great fighter/thief
Xzar - Necromancer (comes with Montaron)
Garric - Bard
Shar-Teel - Best fighter, IMO
Faldorn - Druid

This party will take you through all situations without any problems. Since there are so many NPCs in BG1, the combinations are nearly endless. Therefor it's hard to give you an "ultimate" party for a given NPC.

Those stats are pretty high. You may not be able to get them.

Xandax, sorry i guess i misunderstood the content of your post, but your first post reads imo like "get lost newbie" TO's cheat line in the next reinforces that.

(and look on the bright side, all the questions are in one post, rather than 20 different threads.)

When rolling your stats, try to shoot for something like this:

• STR: min 14
• DEX: min 16
• CON: min 16
• INT: as low as you want
• WIS: 18 - maximize your spells
• CHA: min 8

I recommend putting *'s into blunt and missile weapons to start. As for your group, that really depends on the way you play. If you like a high reputation, then you'll have trouble with evil NPC's, and vice versa.

Well, you *will* get them sooner or later if you keep trying. As always the 18/00 is the big problem. You could always go for something less here but will then lose an extra + 1 to the THAC0 (at least).

Actually I play with a Male Fighter/Cleric (Human though) at the Moment. Starting Stats:

St: 18
Dex: 18
Con: 18
Int: 10
Wis: 18
Cha: 10

a little higher Charisma would probably have been better....but whatever.

Using Bassilus`Hammer, shield +1, boots of avoidance, spells mostly raise undead, cure light wounds, few others.

He is Level: 5/5 right now and is quite fun to play together with Imoen and Dynaheir...

Right... If you're going for the power gamer's approach, I would suggest the following:

Get Strength 18. Doesn't matter what Exceptional Strength you get, as long as it's 18. You'll be able to add another point during the game anyway, which makes any previously existing Exceptional Strength obsolete.

Get Dex 17. You'll be able to add another point to that as well, bringing you to 18 and getting you the very best possible in AC.

Get Con 19. Again, another point can be added. This gets you super-dwarf Con, which means even more Hit Points and a bit of regeneration.

You may be wondering how to pay for all those high scores... We'll get to that now.

Get Wis 13. That low? Yes, that low. This means missing out on a couple of spell slots, but nothing else. You'll get all spells you'd get with a higher Wis, only one or two less of every level. If you absolutely want those spells, start with Wis 15. You'll be able to raise Wis on no less than three occasions anyway, and Wis 19 is not much more useful for bonus spells than 18.

Get any Int you feel comfortable with. It's purely cosmetic and doesn't affect your game in any way.

Get any Cha you like. Again, a purely cosmetic stat. Does not appear to influence store prices. If it does, get Imoen to do your shopping.
