Any ideas on which equipment to give to a perfect backstabber in BG?

Shadow Armer, Short Sword of Backstabbing or maybe if he can use it the Long Sword +2, and these boots of stealth or what they call them.....

Dagger of venom is a good idea too.

Don't forget ring of invisibility. Necklace of missiles is handy to have too... creeping along and, boom, fireball them before they even know what hit 'em ;)
Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

So you backstab with a fireball do you? ;)

You should probably have lots of invisibility potions.... :)

There is a short sword +2 that is available pretty early in the game. It takes quite a while to get the short sword of backstabbing, and the Dagger of venom is quite expensive, so you might consider this short sword until you can get one of the others. It is found on an ogre on the map south of High Hedge.

Good point laurelei.

The shortsword +2 is available early - the ss +3 is avialable far too late.

But the shadow armour and dagger of venom should be easily purchased by a solo character early in the game.

The Boots of speed would be better than boots of stealth (if your stealth points are high enough).

And if you already have a decent stealth plus the shadow armor, stick on the boots of speed, but when you're in the wild, keep the boots on your frontline fighter, because you don't want your rogue wandering ahead alone.

1 - Can't you backstab with longswords in BG1?

2 - The Dagger of Venom is one of the best weapons in the game, probably second only to Drizzt's Defender +5.

Of course not, but they are handy after you've backstabbed and are running away :D
