Game crashes upon killing Tarantalek in Korriban caves :(

Post by byf43 »

I'm stuck. To continue the game I must kill the tarantalek. However the game freezes and exits to windows every time I kill the monster.

I've had problems when killing other enemies through the game, but found out that I can "cheat" the bug by going elsewhere first and then come back or simply lure the enemy away from its "home area" into another area and then kill it there. That way the game didn't crash. Now though there's nothing I can do.... :mad:

Earlier I was adviced to reinstall the game. I didn't do so due to my "trick" mentioned above. Now however I'll try. But I see no Uninstall command? Do I simply select the folder with the game and delete? (Of course copying my saves to another folder first).

Thanks in advance for any hints you may be able to give.

I forgot to mention that turning down graphics completely doesn't help at all.

Interestingly I've just read elsewhere that this is not an unusual problem!? Several others have had this error and solved it mostly by looking away from the monster as it's slain. I then did other quests, returned, let my npc's fight and then went the opposite direction and looked away. Tadaaa! It didn't crash upon killing. So now I'm past that point. However it still crashes in other places. For example after talking to Ajunta Pall convincing him to go to the light side. I get bonus exp and just after the awful windows box; "do you want to send an error report?"......

Yessss I want to send error report :mad: Or maybe I just want the crap to function without errors grrrr.

Right, I had trouble with my game crashing in various locations as well. Some of it apparently can be attributed to graphics errors. I tried this workaround, which should fix some of the trouble with spontaneous crashes. Not saying it'll fix ALL crashes, but apparently it should help with some of them.

Open the file swkotor.ini in the Kotor folder. Add the line I highlighted at the bottom of the Graphics Options, the one saying "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1".

Like so:

[Graphics Options]
V-Sync=0
Anisotropy=1
Frame Buffer=1
Anti Aliasing=0
Texture Quality=2
Emitters=1
Grass=1
Soft Shadows=0
Shadows=1
Brightness=57
EnableHardwareMouse=1
FullScreen=1
RefreshRate=60
Width=800
Height=600
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

I read in a thread somewhere that it should help with many graphics-related crashes. Not that my game ever crashed when killing the Tarantatek, but you never know.
