Sarevok's Chamber (SPOILERS)

Post by RPGguy »

I take it that once you kill him, you are trapped in that room? I've searched a bit about this on the net and this seems to be the case, however, not sure if it can be overcome with the tutu install.

I still have some ToSC content to finish up and figured that since it was official expansion material, that it was meant to be played *after* the Sarevok battle. So I'm hoping there is a way to simply continue on. Is there?

PS. I got pwned in that battle 4 times before I was able to beat him with a party of 4 and no arcane magic (my cleric ranger, Ajantis, Imoen and Kivan)

Hahah, the first time I kept running around the Bhaal logo to avoid Sarevok, not realizing it was trapped to hell. His cronies cast so many area spell in the center of the screen and I was so heavily buffed, I never noticed the traps going off...until I started getting pummeled with the damage.

2nd and 3rd deaths were heinously quick as his mage buddy stripped my buffs with Dispel Magic, just as I was rushing up to to smack-out the other mage.

4th death I clipped the edge of a stinking cloud and fell unconscious after failing the save (my saves are awesome too so I must have rolled a 1). S'vok and Tovak caught me quick and slaughtered me within a round. I yelled at the screen after that one.

Finally did it on the 5th try but was reduced to running away most of the time while Kivan and Imoen pelted him with arrow. It had a thick aroma of cheese to it but I was out of options with no wands or arcane spellcasting ability. I'm not proud of it but it's better than going back through that heinous maze to get back to BG and track down the people and equipment I should have brought with me to begin with. (d'oh!)

Anyways, thanks for any help you can offer.

I believe that after you kill Sarevok, you should be teleported to the village added by ToSC, i had the same problem as you however, so i simply finished ToSC content before going to battle sarevok. Try installing some patches, i havent

From what i know 99,5% of people just flood the room with monsters created via "Summon monster" wands, and watch them devour your evil brother alive :)

In my experience he usually eats any monster summoned, perhaps I play too high dif ;-)

I usually used area effect magic to take him and his croonies out or enough of them out and him lowered so he can be dealt with.

The easiest way that I have found is to:

SPOILER ALERT HIGHLIGHT TO READ

Go the the right and kill the guys with the flaming sword. Leave the party there as you only need a thief equipped with the boots of speed.

Take the thief to the left. Get rid of the traps there. Hide. Get him just in sight of Saverok and no-one else. Shoot with arrow. He will approach. Run behind pillar and hide. Once he is near the pillar, go behind and backstab. Run to the other side of pillar and hide. It may be necessary to attempt hide more than once. Just keep running till you can attempt hide again.

Repeat until he dies. You can even kill him without a weapon this way!!

nope (sigh) after his death, it just rolled credits. I had access to the 'Final Save' but that just takes you back the chamber. And I was initially happy with that because Ajantis was slaughtered in the battle and left some items on the floor I def. wanted to take with me.

The only summons I had were 2 normal skeletons and 2 nymphs (cleric ranger). No wands or ability to use them...but like Edar said, S'Vok is nasty and I have no doubt he would have rolled through the summons like a hot knife through butter.

Wise Grimwald's idea is pretty cool but I was afraid to go near the pillars at the sides because that seemed to draw out the Doom Guards and they were the last things I wanted thrown into the fray.

Jeez, I did Durlag's Tower then Ulgoth's Beard (shoulda done it the other way around, but hey) before Cloakwood. Aside from the
Spoiler
Tanar'ri and his lousy Death Gaze
there were no major hassles, and the XP boost/sweet loot was great (especially as I'm on Tutu with LVL 1 NPCs).

The way I beat Sarevok in my so-far-only BGTutu run came down to Dire Charming Tazok, who then took down Sarevok for me.

Damn. You just spoiled me :( I haven't hit that guy yet. No worries, I'm not mad.

I tried that, using the Nymph from Call Woodland Beings (cleric ranger) but she is fickle. If there are enemies about or a lot of things going on, she likes to ignore your commands and do her own thing. biotch!!!

Sorry, will fix for any other innocent eyes. :o
If it's any consolation, IMO the moniker "Death Gaze" isn't really apt to describe either the immediate practical effect or the sheer :(  ness of this particular little trick (not to mention the other nasty gimmicks the boss has), and thankfully I haven't come across it anywhere else in either BG game so you still have a delightful  surprise in store.

If you really want to try the expansion with your present party you could just use the cheatcode to move your party to Ulgoth's Beard from your final save.

Now that is a good idea. It's how the game is meant to work anyway. The way I have been playing it, I have done the ToSC expansion immediately before entering the thieves' guild to get Saverok.

If Doom Guards pose a problem, your party needs to get stronger, doing the expansion beforehand would be great exercise. :)

Since you mentioned that you 'overlooked' the traps in Sarevok's temple, you'll want to train a thief for traps and their detection, and make scouting a habit. Parts of the expansion require proper, expert scouting. By ignoring stealth options, many walkhroughs showcase how a lack of scouting and sneaking make the game much, much harder than is has to be when you enter areas carefully, and refrain from rushing in.

Doom Guards are not a problem. But when you got hasted Sarevok after you and able to kill my 95 HP character with just 2 or 3 swings (despite a -8 AC), Tovak right behind him and a couple of mages firing off spells and arrows of detonation...ya, they needed to stay put behind the pillars. :D

Oh and I hear you about scouting. I am usually quite paranoid about traps but just got caught up in buffing my characters for the big show down. It never occured to me that the Bhaal logo was trapped to hell

Believe me, i rolled my eyes at myself for that first death.

Ever seen a sketch about 'How Not to be Seen'? Some people sell the stuff in bottles, or rings, or scrolls.

Oh, you will be. And how. Paranoid about traps, that is. Deadly ones. Not with Sarevok, though.

Anyone who claims that never happened to them is either a liar, or a walkthrough-user, or they never actually played the game. :)
