The Eye

Post by HoodLum77 »

spoilers!

Well, it's about Cult of Unseeing Eye quest. I've talked to Gaal - agreed to find a rod, he gave me key to lower reaches. Then talked to Sassar - same - agreed. Then I came back to "Gaal's place", and tried to reach lower level of the dungeon;

It's number 6. There supposed to be enterance (aaand part of the rod and The Eye itself), but... there's not, or at least I can't find it. Dunno, it's some bug or I'm doing it wrong? Also I didn't go to Rift Device area since I heard it's not really needed to complete this quest... well maybe it is? I don't know, I just can't reach the lower part of the dungeon... which sux.

PS. Maybe it's too little for a new topic so also - what mods would you recommend for a total newbie like me? Some basics I guess (those wit additional quests would be ok tho).

Anyways, thx.

Spoilers ahead. Edited to add that you need to mark the "empty" part with your cursor, highlighting it, to read the text. I think it says so in the Guidelines for posting as well, but most people do not read them.

Now I am not certain what you mean, but here is what you need to do.
Spoiler
Talk to Gaal, Talk to the old blind geezer in the crypt. Go down the spiral stair #4, retrieve that part of the rod. Go up again and talk to the oldie in the crypt room.

He will tell you to go and talk to a guy standing in front of #6 and will give you the right codeword to tell him. When you talk to that fella (I forgot his name), giving the right codeword, he will admit you into #6, from whence you can continue your quest.
You have to do all this.

There are walkthroughs on this site. They are quite good as they do not tell you in details what to do as so many others.

As for mods, since it is your first time the mods you should run are...

None!

Always do a clean run, then start on the mods a few at a time. That has kept me loving the entire saga for 6 years now.

Edited again to add, welcome to BG and the forum, nice place and superb game- after six years it still keeps me enthralled.

Aight, I just thought you don't need to go down #4, so thanks for clearing it up.

:P That's what I'm planning - first run - without any mods - then add some on the second one.

Thanks anyways, and thx for welcomes ;)

In the stickies section are two threads discussing mods. Personally I run the list you can see a few threads under this one, though I am having some trouble atm.

I am so jealous that you are getting to experience these quests for the first time!!! Eye Cult quest is classic!

Agree, go vanilla first time. But vanilla does not mean unpatched. Make sure you've installed the official patches and a few of the essential Giberlings Three (aka G3) patches

Also recommend you break the habbit of accessing walkthrough's while you play. Sometimes just stopping and sleeping on a problem will reveal the solution. The ultimate high is figuring it out yourself. The game is not supposed to be easy. Granted, however, there are some broken quests...or rather, quests that can break if you do 'z' before you do 'x' and 'y'

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Though - what will happen to my saves when I'll install patches? I mean, in many games they're gone and you need to start over again, it's same with BG2?

As for walkthroughs - I usually rather go for another quest (and come back later), some trip or just take a break than just go and look for a walkthrough, solutions are evil ;p. Though, I've just heard there were some bugs about this specific "eye" quest so...

Thanks for help once again

Unfortunately, patching a game will make your prior saves unusable.

Not always, I just messed up my games with too many mods out of order. I uninstalled everything but the game, added the Bioware patches, installed the G3 fixpack then everything else and except for one sword gone missing my saved games are going well.
Take heart fellow adventurers, for you have curried the favor of Boo, The only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm.

Another question, this time about "Solve the 'skinner' murders in the Bridge District".

Spoilers!
Spoiler
Well, I've kinda solved them, got a reward and all. Though, as you know, the story of Rejiek (murderer) continues in Trademeet - he appears again on Tiris and Raissa quest. I've done it also (and killed Rejiek.. I guess), but the "Solve the 'skinner' murders in the Bridge Disctrict" still appears in my Journal as not "Done Quest". I just wanna know - this quest will continue or what? Don't want details though. Basically the last entry in journal about it is when Rejiek and his fellow mage got away from tanner shop... so I dunno, maybe I *****d something up (still got my reward so o_O )
Not a big thing though, but I like everything clear and smooth - same goes with BG2 journal xD

First, here is how you do the spoiler thing:

Took me a while to figure out myself, so here goes so others do not need to.

Up in the bar with options for your message, furthest to the R in the bottom row, there is a big S in a yellow square with fat black borders. Mark your text, then click on that and voila...

My guess, based on my own experiences:

There are sometimes quests that are finished but still appear in the journal, I suspect it is a bug, possibly connected to mods.

Slight possible spoiler, highlight to read.
Spoiler
However, in your case, the quest is not actually finished if you are evil that is. If you are Good it is, but does not register as such as evil characters would have further options.

Can't be cause of mods since I don't have any. Though - it's unpatched also, so... whatever.

Another question then - is there some time limit? I know some quests have time limits, but what about main one?

Main one does not have a time limit. I usually let poor Immo languish for 3 months or so in Spellhold. The Shattered One needs time for his experiments.

If it is your stronghold you can use the main gate and secret passage both. I have nevet not had it as stronghold, so I would not know, but I do seem to recall before modding and getting all the strongholds I could not enter the Sphere after having dealt with that.
