1. Do you have to find all six notes (I only have five).
2. In the GameBanshee walkthru they talk about the 6 notes, but only show 4 sites....are there 2 notes at two of those sites, or did they leave out a couple, because I've gone back twice and searched and no more notes????

SPOILERS...
Spoiler
Are you talking about the Watchguard of the Reaching? If so, the game guide says there are four but then goes on to list six:
Apprentice Quarters: two in the footlockers, one in the library
Senior mage: one in the study by Owain, one on the opposite end of the study
Great hall: one by the back wall of the main room

After you find all the codex entries, active the Great Hall statues in the proper order. Then open the door to the basement - I would highly suggest having the tank open the door while the rest of your party stays back a respectful distance.

#3 appears on the map three times (twice in the Apprentice Mage Quarters and once in the Senior Mage Quarters).

Door won't open (spoilers)

I'm playing on my PC. I found all six notes with the help of the "Tab" key and the codex entry has updated. When I click on the first statue with the bowl my character gets a shock, same with the next two statues. Only the last statue gives me a normal response but the locked door is still not opening. I read that if you get a shock its because you've clicked on statue in the wrong order or to many times. I've temporarily given up. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll need to click on the statues in a correct sequence in order to unlock the basement door. The notes you found give clues on said sequence. However, if you don't wish to crack your head over the puzzle, here is the correct order;

SPOILER
Spoiler
1) The statue holding the bowl
2) The statue holding an upward pointing sword
3) The statue holding a downward pointing sword
4) The statue in the Great Hall chamber where you fight an abomination turning some tranquil mages into shades, which also happens to contain the access stairway to the fourth floor

Got it to work

I had the correct order but I think because I had clicked on some of the statues earlier it apparently upset the sequence and my character would get shocked no matter what I did. What seems to have worked was leaving the Circle building, travel to another destination, and then return. That seems to have reset the statues and then it worked like it was supposed to.
