I was writing a paper on how Internet media, specifically blogs, affects political ideas and our (American) democracy as a whole. More or less, I came to the conclusion (because it was somewhat of an opinion paper) that at the current time that the Internet was having a negative impact on political discourse.
I checked my paper before I submitted. It had exactly 1337 words.

By the way, what is the word limit on your paper?
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

Edit: JESUS CHRIST! I just finished another paper and it has exactly 1337 words. This one wasn't on the Internet, though. I am seriously not joking. I must have angered the Internet and now it is sending omens.

It basically means you grew up during the '90s.

It's the word 'Leet' spelled in numbers. 'Leet-speek' as they call it (the form of writing letters in numbers). Don't ask me to write it as I've no idea how.rmemmett84 wrote:Help a brother out....whats the significance of 1337?![]()

Leet, 1337, l33t, etc. was the first of the pwned offspring. It began the great tradition of what many refer to now as the txting language - using numbers to substitute letters and greatly contracting words. Those who were born in the early 80s and before were too old to get into the craze, while those who were born in the 90's were too young to spend enough time on the Internet during those days.
It means "elite", as in the Internet, computers, and related things are elite and show qualities of being totally awesome and better than everything else.
Just like Hitler's rejection from the Vienna Academy of Art set the stage for the fall of Europe, so too did leet-speak set the stage for the fall of the English language. However, invoking Godwin's Law is definitely not 1337.
