I saw this, and it left me speechless.
Backstory: How The Texas Textbook Revision Came To Be
I normally don't subscribe to the insanity of the Huffington Post, but the article was based on an interview with Ed Brayton, someone I enjoy reading on ScienceBlogs.
This one quote in particular perfectly sums up modern America:
"I'm not the scholar that can just pop those things out, I just have my general impressions." - Don McLeroy when discussing the ideals behind the revolutions during the Enlightenment
This is scary, scary stuff. This isn't something new, it's been building up. Texas was already voted Most Likely To Secede (because, you know, that's patriotic or something). Coupled with the reach of the Tea Parties and everything else the far right is doing to America, we could be building up to something really damning. As in, revisionism that rivals Imperial China, plus a gradual Christianization (i.e. mandatory Jesus-lovin') of the entire nation, reestablishing Jim Crow laws (not just for black anymore, right gays?), and all that evil crap Republicans associate themselves with these days.
Quick fact: Textbook publishers have a tendency to bend to Texan wills because they make up a major portion of their sales.
Sigh... remember when crazies were laughed at and ignored? Now they make up a major constituency.
Anyways, it's time to join the Palin/Beck 2012 insurgency for protection and loot. Just gotta find out how to become a sociopath...
