Bloody Mess Problem

Post by LyingDelilah »

I'm having a huge problem that is preventing me from going forward in the game. After I finish Bloody Mess, I put the blood in the mailbox and get the update to check back for the money. The problem is that the email they send me thanking me for doing the mission is never marked as unread, it's automatically in read emails without me doing anything. So because I can't uncheck it myself, the mission never disappears from my log and after Sibling Rivalry I'm stuck.

I'm begging for anyone to help me!

Being a sidequest, I don't think you can get stuck in the main quest line, because of that. The quest might be "stuck" in your journal, but shouldn't stop you from talking with Bertram Tung.

It's odd because after finding out where Betram is, I can't open the fence. It stays locked.

Known but rare bug, iirc. Which patch are you using? Official 1.2, one of Wesp5's excellent Unofficials, or a version of the "True VTMB" patches (if these are still around)?
Usually, using noclip to go through the fence should work - there's a thread about that bug floating around somewhere in here.

The question remains, though - Does insight remove sanity, or will insight be given to the mad?"

The problem could be that a patch was applied after the game was started, and that causes a lot of problems, even if some of them can we worked around using the console.

As to the locked gate, either the noclip cheat that Shizz mentioned, or raise the jump height(using sv_jump_boost 100 in the console), and then it can be jumped over easily.

Yeah I did apply a patch after I had started the game. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall the game now with the patches. Thanks for the help!

Instead of just uninstalling and reinstalling, try a new game first. Then if it still messes up, then go for the uninstalling and reinstalling.
