Lost DAO characters after installing Awakening

A buddy of mine said" Welllll... ever since I loaded the Awakening DL I have lost all my save games, all my old characters, and I'm in shock.... "

Has anyone else had this happen?? I thought if you wanted to go back to DAO you just put that disc in the drive (according to the handbook).

Or did this happen because he got Awakening DL?

Anyone have some input?

I had no trouble playing Origins with the Awakening Disc in the drive.

But it MAY be such that mixing Discs and DLs might cause such. BUt I don't use D2D, so I wouldn't know.

I'd rather buy a disc than dwnld a game- heck, what if your HD crashes?
