Mage Stronghold **Spoiler**

Post by Kerosene »

I'm not so sure about this...

The Ring of Wizardry looks great, but that means I don't graduate all the people and stuff.

Basically what I'm asking is...

Should I kill the guy in the Stronghold for the ring?
Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies.

Depends on how ruthless you are and what you RP.

There are other ways to get Rings of Wizardy. Look in the Items section of this very forum.

When posting spoilers, Mark the text containing the spoiler by dragging your cursor across it, then press the little S in your tools above the text field, the one in a yellow square with a fat black border. It will then be invisible.

This is true, there is actually only one way of getting it apart from apprentices. I was thinking of the lesser version. Oh well, I am cleaning out Sulda for the umphteenth time and have never owned a RoW.

If you have Jaheira, you'll get the Harper side-story quests which involves fighting Galvarey. One of his wizards possesses a Ring of Wizardry. Dump Jaheira after this fight, if you want.

I am unsure if killing the students will cause you to NOT receive further missions from Cowled Wizards. You won't get a potion making guy, that's for sure.

Nope, you will not. But he does not make that potent potions anyway.

Kero, I think you can just kill the Harpers, but I cannot recall whether it hurts your Rep, nor whether you get the RoW from it. You can try, I play Good, so I have only done it on my evil trial run.

Edit, "Bondari Reloads" is your friend if it fails ;-)

Haha, you guys are great, thanks for your help. :D

Anyways, I've killed the harpers. Bit of exp, but the Ring of Wizardry for me isn't as good as the Ring of Acuity. (Is that what its called?)

Actually, the better thing IMO is a Staff of Power + a ring of Wizardry. In my noreloads via extensive testing, I had almost total success with all of the three last items, IF the first two tasks I give to those apprentices are the easiest ones (the +1 dagger and the scroll of Mislead - plus, I like Larz's comment on completing the scroll). The staff is extremely powerful in vanilla and has its uses even in a tactical mod (IA, SCSII).

FYI - If you just go into the Harper Hold before Jaheira's quest is started (e.g. before you're summoned), you won't have Galvary and his party (including the one with the ring) around, it will just be the 3-4 Harpers who are hanging around during the Find Monty quest for the necromancer.

That party doesn't spawn until the Jaheira quest AFTER you finish the initial Harper's quest.

EDIT- yes, killing those initial batch of Harpers in the hold without provocation will cause a reputation hit and if Jaheira is not in your party, she will turn red and attack as soon as she sees you. Not sure what she will do if in your party.

Yeah, you can't wear two rings of wizardry. One time I (legitimately) obtained both and was extremely pissed that I bothered killing off my apprentices only to be told that.
Right you are, Ken.

As far as I recall, you're able to wear two of them and receives cumulative effects.

I will second Miscreant. Can't use two RoW on the same character. One wizardry and one acuity is fine though. Who doesn't have more than one mage anyway :D (Unless you solo, but then you can use a Gaxx or something.)
