Cloud Kill Scroll

Post by Lews Therin »

I just looted a cloud kill scroll beneath Gullykin, and was wondering if my mage with int 18 will get to a high enough level to caste this spell from my book? It's a level 5 spell, so should I try to learn it or use it from the scroll?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

PS. I'm trying to get through BG1 without reading any spoilers. When I played BG2 the first time, I ruined it for myself by being to curious on these message boards.

If you have the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion or the experience cap removed, then yes, your mage will be able to cast it from his book. Otherwise, he won't.

If you plan to import your character in BGII, and don't have the Sword coast expansion, use the spell.....you'll find a lot of them in BGII

Simple answer.

Save before memorising. If memorising fails reload and try again.....it does work.

Not so simple if you can't caste level 5 spells from your book. Then you have to decide when to use this one time scroll, and having others later in the game would weigh on that decision.

But you make a good point about how to memorize scrolls if that is what you want to do.

Ok can anybody give me the location of the cloud kill spell.
I can't seem to find it any where.
Coordinates would be greatly appreciated.

There's a secret cache in the Cloudpeak Mountains South of Nashkel. It's a little blurry ledge. If you arrive from the North, walk SW for about two screens. Coordinates (x 1791 y 413).

I pulled that straight from Dan Simpson's guide at Gamefaqs. Between that and Desslock's guide from Gamespot just about everything is covered.

I believe in my multiple runthroughs of BGI I did find another cloudkill scroll once. Suffice it to say they are pretty rare in BGI.

If you have TOSC installed a regular mage will get to cast one level 5 spell when reaching level 9 (specialty mages get 2 level 5 spells). If you do not have TOSC installed, you won't reach level 9 so you might as well use it instead of reading it.

It's simpel, if you have tosc then yoy should memorize it, otherwise you should use it.

The best move is to save it. If you don't have TOTSC, use it in the final battle. If you get TOTSC, you'll get the scroll back because you will be sent to before the showdown with Sarevok. NOW save it! :D
