A Sad Day for Metal Fans Worldwide

Post by Ragin Cajun »

As a huge metal fan today is one of the saddest days of my life from a music standpoint as word came out this afternoon confirming that Ronnie James Dio has passed away from stomach cancer.

Ronnie, to me, had arguably the greatest metal pipes ever and left us with a great catalogue of his music as his testament. He was the acknowledged "creator" of metals' salute, the infamous devil horns.

RIP Ronnie.

Damn. you know metal has been around just long enough for us to soon see more giants of the genre fall. Don't really want to think about it right now.

RIP Dio.

You're right there.. Sabbath, Ozzy, Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones...

It's going to be a punch in the gut when they start going.

Entwistle died a few years ago...

I never really cared for Dio's Sabbath, but his contribution to music was invaluable. :salute:

Rest in peace, Ronnie.

Somewhere in the night
A candle burns for you
The eternal flame
The light keeps shining on
Your music is immortal
It's stood the test of time
You're gone but not forgotten
You walk with us

We will remember
They were born to rock and roll

This song's a celebration
Of what you gave to us
The legacy you left still marches on
Still they play your music
All around the world
Blasting through the airwaves
To the stars

We will remember
They were born to rock and roll

From London to Chicago
From the mountains to the sea
The legacy you left
Will never die

R.I.P. Dio

He's gone, he is dead
His remains upon the hearse ahead
As silently we wander though the mist
He's free

This is the end
Your journey's over, night descends
Below... Into the abyss
Farewell, my friend, you will be missed

Lower the flags
A good man has passed
He has reached the last of frontiers
Lower the flags
Down to half-mast
For again the world has taken a turn for the worse

He's done, he is dead
Six feet of earth upon his head
Now lay your wreaths
Upon the one who lies beneath

Although you're gone
In memories you shall live on
Asleep... In peace now rest
The weight of the world is off your chest

Lower the flags
A good man has passed
He has reached the last of frontiers
Lower the flags
Down to half-mast
For again the world has taken a turn for the worse

That morning light I'll always remember
And these August nights: cold as December.
"As we all know, holy men were born during Christmas...
Like mr. Holopainen over there!"
- Marco Hietala, the bass player of Nightwish
