Clive Barker's Undying. I hate those Howlers.

Nosferatu: Wrath of Malachi.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind could be pretty scary too. Especially when you're at level 10 or lower and you suddenly find your character face to face with a Nord with an axe and you only got a steel shortsword. Mind you, the Nord is fast. Really.

I don't think Morrowind had a game-over screen.

I don't really recall seing one since.. Commander Keen? Maybe I just can't think of a good one.

Arkham Asylum had some fairly disturbing game over scenes. The Killer Croc and Scarecrow ones were particularly striking. You can find them here , starting around 1:22.

Maybe not the same type of 'game over', but this one from Planescape: Torment felt quite intense:

Resident Evil series had nice game over screens. Mostly showing how you've died.

As for Broken Sword.. I remember how scary the game over screen was for me (where you get shot on the cliff) but only because i didn't know how to save (assumed there's an auto save) and lost the entire progress there..

Since then i don't have broken sword on my HDD :D

I don't think I've ever had a game over screen scare me; But I found Red Dead Redemption's to be quite amusing.

When Nox first came out I was pretty young, but I absolutely loved the game, but I was always scared of dying because of the game over screen where Hecubah would taunt you :p now that I think back about it, Nox had some pretty good gameover screens, and they were all different depending on where you were in the story.

I always thought Ocarina of Time had a scary game over screen. You get a close up of Link taking his last breath and dying. It's even scarier if you're killed by one of the zombie things, because then you cannot help but imagine how they'll eat his corpse afterwards.

Now here's the game over screen that I've found from Aladdin from Sega Genesis, it creeps me out when I was young while someone played Aladdin from Sega Genesis, and I was at the kids place called "Kids Play".

Scariest game, I agree, but the members here are talking about scariest 'game over' screens, not the scariest game they've ever played.

And speaking of scariest game over screens, I agree with someone here who pointed out the Resident Evil ones, especially no. 4 and 5, especially when it comes to some guy wearing a sack over his head who chainsawed the main character if you are unlucky. Made me uncomfortable watching it at first, but after a while, you get irritated by it and just want to fill him up with lots of lead to get rid of him fast. :p

Oh and by the way, welcome to the forums, azazeal. :)

The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale.
