Is there a mod that does this?
I was just wondering if there is a mod that allows me to use a monster avatar for my player character? I just thought it would awesome to play through the game as a tanaari and just wreak havoc everywhere.
Shadow keeper allows you to tweak your characters' appearance, including switching avatars. However, not all of them work properly - some lack casting animations etc.
I always play with Bodhi's avatar for Valen, because its attack animation suits my idea of Valen fighting with her claws. As a human she's holding a dagger, which bugs me. So I can testify you can go through all BG without problems "using" Bodhi  Not sure about the others, though.

Kitchen Witchcraft : Of Magic and Macaroni - a blog about, well, a witch in the kitchen.

Thank you, I have to try it. I have a feeling that it wont be possible to use the tanaari avatar simply because of the size, but it's worth a shot.QuenGalad wrote:Shadow keeper allows you to tweak your characters' appearance, including switching avatars. EDIT: Btw, I assume that even if they lack casting animations, it is possible to cast spells with even those avatars? Also, can I use Shadow keeper with BGtutu?
EDIT2: Haha, well, surprisingly it did work. The problem is however that I wont be able to use the avatar since I can't fit through any doors. Too bad, would've been a blast.
EDIT3: I experimented some more. I first tried giving my character an innate polymorph ability, but that didn't work for some reason. Then I gave my character the cloak of the sewers and it worked! Then again this feels kind of lame as I wouldn't want to give my character items for free. I don't have time to test it more right now, but I'll have to try again later if I could give my character an unlimited ability such as polymorph to human form. Failing that polymorphing to an animal form should be enough also.
If it makes you feel better, you can get the Cloak of Sewers without cheating quite early.
Easy to get if you know where to look: small hint/spoiler highlight to see:
Or did you know that already?
There's also some monster NPC mods... one that looked like a small beholder.
edit: The npc is called Goo

I do know where to get it yes. Then again I would've played through BG1 first so I would not have gotten it for a pretty long time. Having said that it doesn't really matter how good an item is, I still don't want to use an editor to add items to my characters.FleaBag wrote:If it makes you feel better, you can get the Cloak of Sewers without cheating quite early.

I've come to the conclusion that this probably isn't worth it though. In the end it's nothing more than a visual difference and having to swap back and forth between different forms every time I want to enter or leave a building would kind of ruin the feel anyway. It did make me think however, and maybe someday when I'm really bored I could try to figure out how to succesfully add the shapechange spells to a character, give him the avatar of a very powerful being like a demon or a dragon, give him godlike stats and try to solo tactics mod with him.
EDIT: Btw, one pretty certain way to make that work would be to create a druid PC, and then dual him/her to whatever class you'd like to play. I thought about doing that also, but a demon druid/mage just sounded a bit silly to me (throwing fireballs and firestorms in every direction, and every now and then summon a bunny or badger to strike fear into my enemies).
Yeah, I remembered thinking how it was pretty cool that I can change into a rat. Then I realized there wasn't any point other than the visuals and getting nerfed.
I didn't know druids can dual to mages, in the past, I've always only been able to dual to a fighter. Druid/Mage would would be a pretty powerful combination though.
Oh, and maybe you can use the shapeshifter kit and change the werewolf avatar with Shadow Keeper to a demon and add some demon-like abilities. This way, you can avoid getting stuck. Not sure how hard this would be though heh and if you roleplay a bit, you might be disappointed as I was when I realized people talk to a werewolf normally just as they would a human - in your case they'd be talking to a demon normally.
Imagine the nobles calling your demon 'a peasant' and thieves trying to mug a demon or Renal Bloodscalp's saying "I expected someone a bit bigger".

I know for a fact that it isn't possible to have a multi-class druid/mage, but I always assumed that it would be possible to dual-class to a mage as a druid as long as you have the required attributes. I might be wrong but I have a feeling that the classes that cannot be dual-classed to/from are the same classes that cannot multi-class (barbarian, sorcerer, monk...), but I'll have to give it a shot at some point.FleaBag wrote:I didn't know druids can dual to mages, in the past, I've always only been able to dual to a fighter. Haha, that's a good point. Then again if I would do what I suggested earlier and create some op character to try and solo tactics mod with, I could probably just go ahead and destroy every arrogant npc like this anyway, considering that it wouldn't be a very serious playthrough anyhow. I'm guessing it wouldn't be very easy to get through tactics mod solo and without the use of shops, even if you have an op character. Having said that I have a strong feeling that this is something that would get boring very quickly. The thing I enjoy most about the BG series is the story, and doing something like this would make me miss it almost completely, so I doubt I would ever get past the beginning if I did decide to do this.FleaBag wrote: Imagine the nobles calling your demon 'a peasant' and thieves trying to mug a demon or Renal Bloodscalp's saying "I expected someone a bit bigger".
