I'm through alot of the game, but the GB site doesn't explain this (Dragon Age: Origins @ GameBanshee).

You have to tell the Blacksmith at Reddcliffe that his daughter is dead. He will kill himself and his replacement, Owen, will have Far Song in his stock for 120 gold and 50 silver.
I can't remember if he still gets replaced if you actually kill him though.
