Amazing Mage Rotation: Undefeated thus far...

Post by Novos »

I know most of you don't need to read this. For the ones who are struggling, I've discovered a mage/sorcerer rotation that has got me through every battle so far without so much as a scratch.

Casualty list:
16 Cowled Enforcers (Total): Down
Lavok: Down
Tolgerias and his motley crew: Down
The entire harper hold: Down
The entire government building: down (did this for fun, bylanna was pissing me off...)
Entire Cult of The Unseeing eye: Down
Cowled Wizard investigating Edwin: Down
Edwin: Down
Mae'Var's entire guildhall (about 15 rogues and 2 mages): Down

Ok im getting smug, Heres the rotation...

Requirements:

Level 3: Haste
Level 4: Stoneskin
Level 4: Improved Invisibility
Level 5: Cloudkill
Level 5: Breach
Level 7: Spell Sequencer

1: Spell Sequencer(Stoneskin, Improved invis, Haste)
1.5: After you cast and are unseen, run away from said group
2. Cloudkill (If you cant get everyone, CAST OVER MAGES, they're too stupid to walk out of it, eventually will die
3. Breach any remaining mages and cut them down to size. (If you're not a fighter mage and you wanna solo with mage/sorcerer straight up, try summons to cut down remaining mages.
4. type /spit, then /rofl
5. Remember you're playing BG2, not WoW.
6. Realize tonight is ICC 10 raiding night at 7:00pm
7: Realize that BG2 is infinitely better than WoW.
8: Profit

There you have it folks. Lay questions on me please.

Now instal SCSII, play on Insane and join the big boys, where enemies aren't stupid and will not die offscreen. It made me laugh tho, the first time i used a cloud spell off-screen ;) but imo it's slightly too cheddar.

Now..

I fail to understand what you need haste for, if you have boots of speed (which you should). Sorc should never, ever, under any circumstances take haste spell, due to the game having 6 pairs of boots of speed, five billion oils of speed and some items that give you improved haste.

Improved Haste IS on the other hand usefull, for improved haste + melf minute meteors combo, very high physical damage done by mage using it.. Still, there are items which give you i.haste, and thus you shouldn't pick it as sorcerer.

It's better to have improved invisibility in a contingency (lvl 6) on "enemy spotted", which will fire on its own, letting you use an other spell.. Spell Immunity : Divination, which stops True Sight spells.

Or better yet, use an invisibility potion, as picking invisibility as sorcerer is another waste. Due to five billion potions, seven dozen items and three and a half hundred scrolls.

Stoneskin lasts -hours- so nothing stops you from having it cast waaay before the fight. Beware : It does not stop secondary weapon damage (from fiery weapons for example). Defensive sequencers should be reserved for short lasting spells, like mirror image, pfmw, spell defense.. et cetera.

Sorc should never, ever
He isn't playing a sorcerer, he's playing a real mage, not a cheese mage! :D

Now go and use the PnP rules via the Gibberlings3 tweak pack, and you'll find out that when the proper rules are used Sorcerers are inferior to mages as they should be. Sorcerors are for kids with ADD, you aren't one of those so join the big boys! :p

Have i just been trolled on gamebanshee?

Now i have to admit, you've caught me with my pants down, much like my cell mates in prison, but you'll soon discover that i'm far from beign defenseless.

The OP wrote
I've discovered a mage/sorcerer rotation
Thus while i appreciate your attempts, the quote i've used above should be sufficient for this barely noticable bump on the road that was your OT post.

Ahoy! :)

OMG Contingency! Thats genius!!! Hold on though, spell immunity is a level 5 spell. I wont be able to put that in a spell sequencer... Still awesome to free up the Improved Invis slot though... Maybe ill put in prot from evil or fear?

lol I'll try the advanced mod once I clear my first solo. :D

@Gal: INDEED! All hail the true mage :D

Problem with Spell Immunity is that you can not use it in sequencers nor contingencies, as it wont work anyway (game bug). The only way to have it work is to get a mod that splits Spell Immunity into ALL the versions of this spell (Spell Immunity : Conjuration for example) and slot the split version inside a contingency / sequencer.

I cannot remember the mod's name now, but i guess it's something from g3.

So my hint was to cast spell immunity on your own, during the time you've been given by replacing Sequencer with auto-starting Contingency.

Protection from fear has a 1 hour duration, so use it just as Stoneskin, before combat.
Protection from evil is given passively by a few items, the first example beign staff of the magi. And even tho you're a kensai/mage, i'd say its better to skip the spell, unless you want to summon demons.

Leave Sequencer for a Mirror Image + Shield + Invisibility / blur / whatever else and have it ready for some melee heavy fights.

P.S. Contingency with Protection from magical weapons on self on low health is one of the must-have things.

edit : Sequencer with 3x stinking cloud is a worthy investment. Although i've seen others suggest a web + cloud + something combo. Your choice

Rock and roll; thanks for the tip :) Won't mirror image make me visible to the enemy. One thing about improved invis, enemies cant see me even as I attack and cast. Though a few spells do expose me, for example globe of invulnerability. Will mirror image do the same?

MEH! Im one level away from spell trigger, mixed with contingency; holy ballsacks thats gonna be invincible.

Oh and LOL! Insert trollface XD

I'm not sure if the AI actualy "sees" you when you're invisible but surrounded by an effect that is visible to the naked eye (for example spell trap, or globe)

By "see" i mean : know where to cast dispel magic.

The thing about impr. invisibility is : You're fully invisible ONLY until you perform a hostile action. Then you're "partialy" visible. They still can't target you with direct spells, but they CAN hit you and see you.

Tip for fighting impr. invisible enemies : Contingency and Chain Contingency spells that are set to "nearest enemy" will hit invisible people aswell when the conditions are met.

Tip 2 : You can cast scrolls on "partialy" visible enemies.

Wicked. How many contingencies can I have going at once? If only one, Chain contingency and contingency can be stored at the same time correct?
