Any suggestions for a new game?
Im a big fan of pc rpgs and have been for a long time. Ive used this site for countless walkthroughs and im currently very bored and looking for a new game to buy.
I have played: BG1, BG2, Ice wind dale1 and 2, planetscape, kotor(Kotor 2 wont work), The temple of elemental evil, neverwinter nights, diablo1 and 2, morrowind, oblivion(Xbox), pool of radience 2, fallout 3(Xbox).
So as you guys can see I have played most of the classics some multiple times and im looking for another rpg to start playing. Now heres the kicker im a college student and whatever i play has to be able to run on my vista laptop with intel 965 chipset. So extremely new games like dragon age are out of the question. Ive googled classic rpgs and stuff like that a million times and nothing has stuck out to me.
ps my favorite game types have great stories such as BG2 and Kotor
SO guys if you could pleaseeeee give me some suggestions i would realy appreciate it.

While I don't have Vista, I'll still suggest that you play Fallout 1 and 2. I'm pretty sure that with a few extra tweaks, you'll be able to play them without any problems.
Another game you might like, in a magical as well as steampunk setting, is Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. It's a very fun and open game filled with plenty of customization and of course many ways to come to a solution.

“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
Good Old Games has the Might & Magic series from #1 to #6 at $10 to download. World of Xeen is what I consider to be the best entry, but all of the entries should have no problem running on the portable computer.
I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

Thanks for the suggestions guys I actually have fallout 1 2 and tactics but didnt give it a chance cause of how slow paced it seemed but im playing them now. Ill give arcanum a try to. The might and magic series seems a little toooooo old for me to get into. as far as kotor 2 goes thanks but trust me I have litteraly spent hours upon hours trying every concievable solution to get it to work still just a ctd after the intro videos. any other suggestion guys?
You can give gothic 1 a try. Depending on your hardware, even gothic 2 (although 1st one is much better).
Here's a review by yours truly. If it's your type of game, give it a shot.
And here is a gamespot review.
We disagree

On top of the Fallouts and Arcanum, you could also try the Vampire the Masquerade RPGs (Redemption and Bloodlines). I still have Windows XP on my PC though, so I have no idea if they work on Vista.
Dr. Stein grows funny creatures, lets them run into the night.

I'd second the Vampire: Bloodlines suggestion. I'd played just about all the same games as you have before I started VTMB, and, in a lot of ways, it seemed exactly like the RPG I'd always dreamed of. I don't think the graphics have aged especially well, but if you could put up with M&M5, you could certainly deal with VTMB. Just be sure to download some sort of (preferably non-intrusive) patch to the game before playing it.

I'd vote for arcanum too, but i cannot forgive it the pathetic ending should you chose "evil" path. Ending that makes no sense whatsoever, and killed the game for me. No spoilers.

I second this. You might try your luck on Amazon.adul wrote:Some very good games here. I'd also suggest checking out Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, an obscure but pretty good game with a rather unique setting. You play an inquisitress in a country which was ravaged by a magician's theocratic rule. Unfortunately finding a copy might be difficult.

Sacred 2 Fallen Angel, a hack&slash RPG wit also RPG elements in it.
Drakensang: The Dark Eye. German partybased RPG based on the rules of Das Schwarze Auge.
Drakensang: The River of Time. prequel of Drakensang: TDE. imo better actually.
Venetica. action based RPG with a rather dark theme. you play as the daughter of Death.
Two Worlds II. lot better then the first one. new is that you can improve your armor by disintegrating the old ones. magic system is also improved.
Risen. The spiritual successor of the old Gothic serie.
The Witcher. if you haven't played it, then do so. Defenitely worth it's money and the nowadays EE version is an improvement of the original. based on the books of Andrzej Sapkowski. rich story.
Titan Quest. good action based like rpg from Brian Sullivan, the designer of Age of Empires.

Some good suggestions Candesco, but unless he has bought a new laptop - I very much doubt any of those games are playable on his system. Some of them might run (on the very lowest settings)... but there is a difference between a game running and a game being playable.
Two wrongs don't make a right... but three lefts do!

Whoops, haven't seen the sentence of having a laptop with an intel 965 videochip.Darth Gavinius wrote:Some good suggestions Candesco, but unless he has bought a new laptop - I very much doubt any of those games are playable on his system. Then most of those won't work. Maybe titan quest will run on it.
Well then, how about the Realms of Arkania serie. Like Realms of Arkania: Shadows over Riva. Based on the rules of TDE and it's a DOS game.

One seminal game not mentioned so far is Deus Ex. It's not available on GoG, but it is on both Direct 2 Drive and Steam. If you wait for a sale you can probably pick it up for $5. Deus Ex slips many people's minds since it was originally marketed more as an FPS, but once you get into it you'll realise that it is one of the better RPGs of the past decade.
Also, if you want to play something of the Diablo style, you might want to check out Fate: the Traitor Soul (retail) or Torchlight. Both games were made by members of Diablo's original design team but with cartoon style graphics, fully randomised dungeons, and a $20 price tag. With Fate the retail edition has three versions of the game (stand-alone expansions), with download you need to buy them separately. The games have minimal story, even compared to Diablo, but they are fun time wasters.
