Witcher 2 censorship?

Post by Ruds »

Anyone happen to know if The Witcher 2 will have the same kind of disparity in censorship between the United States and British versions?

I had to buy the British version of the first Witcher to avoid the extraneous American censorship; I'd like to avoid it again if necessary, but I don't know if it exists yet.

Anyone heard anything about this, or better yet, have a link?

No body knows.

Quote from the official FAQ on the official Witcher 2 forum.

"9. What about censorship in US / German / ___ version? - ### Guys, we really don't know about censorship yet. Seriously, we find out these things once we send a finished game to, for example, ESRB. That has to wait. Sorry"

German version will be censored for sure. They censor everything up.

Hell, they censored Soldier of Fortune and AvP series, where blood and gore are the main elements of gameplay.

So don't buy a version with "D" language sticker.

Even when they censored the U.S. version of the Witcher, fans made a de-censoring mod, so you should be ok regardless, at least eventually.

I remember that the Germans usually focus their censorship powers on violence, not sex, whereas in the US, it's the other way round. Kind of amusing in a way. :p
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

Well - I guess it depends on what the culture value most.

Some value smacking each other over the head while others value violence

Hey, I can dream can't I? At my age you take what you can get, but not at the price of being beaten around the head. Unlike my avatar I don't have hair to protect me!

I honestly don't get US censorship.... it's not at all traumatizing for a kid to hear phrases that would make a wharfie blush, or to see people getting blown up, torn apart and otherwise coming to a grisly end... but if they so much as glimpse a tit they'll be scarred for life??? WTF???

Well tits apparently make you want to commit gratuitous violence, whereas seeing a cool guy bash someone's head in just makes you go "meh, I'll never do that". Because that totally makes sense, right?
