the best proficiencies for a F/M/T

Post by Sramsay12 »

Hey guys, playing as a F/M/T.

Which of these is best for general use:

Long Sword ++
Katana ++
Two-Weapon Style +

OR

Short Sword ++
Short Bow ++
Single-weapon Style +

Only thing is i'm planning to give the Gesen Bow to Haer'dalis. So maybe Long Bow instead of Short Bow?

iIf you're playing in a party, there are far better (more powerful) things to do with a FMT than shoot arrows. Use your Mirror Image/Stoneskin/Ghost or Spirit Armor/PfMW or PFNW (early on) and dual-wield. There's really only 1 good katana in the vanilla game and you definitely don't need it. Not sure what the rest of your party looks like, but if you don't really have a multi-or dual-class cleric (who can only use blunt weapons), the flail of the ages with either kundane or Belm is a good choice to maximize the number of slowed enemies while still using a main hand weapon that can get to +4 (or +5 if you need to). Axes are also a great choice vanilla as you can get two +3 Axes with elemental damage early on as well as Azuredge, a great throwing weapon and undead killer.

Part of planning your weapon specialization really depends on the rest of your party and what you plan to have them do. If you posted what you're doing with the party, we can give you some better advice.

I wouldn't take single weapon style for this character unless it's much later in the game and you're going for bigger backstabs.

Also, one * in two weapon style still leaves you with big penalties, take ** at the start.

It's hard to go wrong with longswords - there's a magic one in the opening dungeon plus a cheap +3 version you can buy early on, along with a variety with good bonuses. Very versatile pick.
