FYI: "Silent" Bugfixes/Changes in Throne Of Bhaal

Post by Kevin Dorner »

I originally posted this on the BlackIsle Troubleshooting forums, but it may prove useful here as well for all the knowledgeable and helpful people.

Baldurdash Throne Of Bhaal FixPack 1.0 should be up today. I'll post when it is with a list of new and imported bugfixes. It will be a very large list. This is what takes all the time, these darn lists. :)

This is a list of bugfixes or changes I found when comparing the Baldurdash bugfixes to the official Throne of Bhaal (with final patch) files, and none of these bugfixes or changes are listed in the BioWare official patch page. This may help to answer some of the queries about why things have changed. Some of them are obvious and well-known, but I list them anyways just for completeness.
  • Kensai and Cavaliers are now restricted from Darts usage. They are still allowed to use hurled missile weapons that also have melee capability (axes and daggers.)
  • Approximately ten fixes (other than for the two mentioned in the patch page and readme for Fighter/Druids) to the allowed weapon proficiencies by class table
  • Engine bug interpreting the MoveToPointNoInterrupt script command that caused the character being moved to disappear if the player made an area transition before their destination was reached was fixed. (This caused the bug of being stuck in hostile Ust Natha because the Matron Mother vanished.)
  • Nishruus will no longer eat uncharged items from a character's inventory on a successful attack (96 items in SoA were affected)
  • Red Dragon scale armour now marked enchanted so will not work with Cloaks/Rings/Amulets of protection
  • Cloak Of Mirroring now uses absorbing instead of reflecting effect; big whiffle-ball instead of pie-plate animation
  • Unholy Blight save/THAC0 penalties no longer permanent
  • Dialog loop if player chooses to fight Jarlaxle in the Underdark eliminated
  • Evil NPC characters will no longer leave if party's reputation gets too high
  • Githyanki anti-paladin Unholy Reaver blades made undroppable
  • Mordenkainen's Sword Greenstone Amulet made undroppable; now stuck to characters who picked them up before
  • Familiars all have been made immune to Level Drain, as if they are level drained and restored, their spellbooks are inaccessible and therefore their spells are forever lost
  • Stalkers no longer lose their backstab ability if they die and are resurrected/raised
  • Anomen's "Big Head" portrait if he joins at level 9 problem resolved
  • Bard Spell Table now complete to five spells per spell level for a level 40 bard
  • Dragon AI was drastically improved; Dragons will not allow "buff" spells or traps in their vicinity, and will aggressively seek offscreen opponents when hostile
  • Edwin's corrupted voice set from the Nether scroll quest is now restored when he's summoned in the Abyssal subplane
  • 4th level wizard spell Enchanted Weapon reversed the order of the casting animation and interface to select the weapon as it was confusing and unintuitive
  • Remove Magic scrolls now bear the correct icon, not the one for Dispel Magic
  • The 2 AC bonus vs. slashing that Valygar's katana was supposed to provide is now present
Two BaldUrban Legends That Ain't So
-----------------------------------
  • Blackrazor being nerfed in ToB. It wasn't. Intead, those used to the one fixed by Beige Tangerine that gave proper portrait icons and battletext output for its effects may think it's broken when the fixed one is gone. The effects are still all there.
  • Grandmastery being restored to BG1 specs. in the latest ToB patch. It wasn't in any way changed from Shadows Of Amn.

Ah, that's nothing. Check my page out. :) There's something.

I still have to write up the list of bugs and post it here and on the BlackIsle forum.

Kevin is God, all bow down to him. I have always maintained the kevin patches are better than bioware patches.

One question. I am intending to install tomorrow, and Start all over again, as before whenever I install the balderdash patches various exploits I've liked no longer work, but I am willing to accept that because Everything works better. In particular swords are moer useful and annoying magic resist to beneficial spells are gone.

But I do love my cloak of mirrors, will I still be able to delete clck26.itm file and be able to go back to the soa style of cloak of mirrors without causing a problem?

Quite frankly, the entire city of ust natha is worth going to only for the beholder dialog and the cloak.

I love that cloak! Since I play sorc I consider it absolutely necessary for my very fragile sorc.

Kevin, pls resond.

Thank you for the patch, I'm sure you get this a lot, but even more than the offical patches YOUR patch rocks!

Question, what is the recommended patch sequence?

I am currently running soa, tob and official patch.

I did not install the soa patch as I thought it nerfed my custom portraits for the npc's which I got about a year ago from lady nightshade.

Is the soa patch a good thing to install???

Well, I always install the official patches though I might lose something else as I might also prevent a game-killer...

Yes, delete that item file from Override and the Cloak Of Mirroring will be just like it was in SoA. I didn't mind the "fix" frm Bio as the thing was stupidly overpowerful IMHO. I was able to do the Unseeing Eye as a solo mage with no cloak of munchkining and no shield of Balduran, so I didn't mind a bit.

If you installed the ToB official patch than it already includes the SoA one as they are installed simultaneously and Bio has to compensate for those who might install SoA, not patch, then install ToB and patch.

Thanks kevin, like I said, installing the soa patch might have nerfed my custom npc portraits I put in, so I already installed using soa, tob then patch, and of course, your patch is so cool...
