Remove spells on level-up [Wizard]

Post by Storm Crow »

Hey guys, I've been puzzled over this for days.

When I level up with my Wizard character I reckon I should be able to remove some of the old spells, if not to learn some new ones than at least to clear up some space. However I can't do it, the removal button is grayed out and I can only remove spells I picked in that same level up, which leaves me stuck with the old ****ty ones.
Am I stupid or what?

..you can't, nor would you want to. (..a Wizard is all about having as many spells as possible for diversity, particularly in regard to spell resistance, damage resistance, and saves. EX. Fighter types often have no spell resistance and High fortitude saves. Use a damage/disabling spell with either no save, or a save that doesn't include Fortitude - i.e. Will or Reflex.)

You can however *add* spells with a scroll. (right click on scrolls that are at your *spell* level or lower to "memorize".) This of course is for spells you don't already know, AND it's only good with *most* arcane spells (for a Wizard). These scrolls can be found or purchased. Though note that not all spells can be found or purchased, and there isn't anything to tell you what these spells will be, it's more of a guess with each campaign (..usually by looking through vendors scroll supplies).

TIP: on level-up select spells that you *can't* find at stores and in chests/monster-"drops".

Of course hitting the "B" key gets you into your spell book for spells you want to memorize for that "day". If you think it's a crappy spell, then don't memorize it.

The "F" key gives you your spells that are memorized for that day that can be cast. Resting replenishes your spells for each day.

If you want something of a "primer on spell selection and use then consider reading the notes section of my *sorcerer* build here:

http://nwn2db.com/build.php?id=8397&version=1

Of course as a Wizard you don't have the kind of limitations with spell selection that a sorcerer has.. BUT the notes section of this build should give you a better idea of what I think is good (and why, and how to use them).

Wow, thanks so much for clearing that up, and also for the ample explanation. I'm such a newbie. :o Guess I'll have to start enjoying my wide arsenal of spells. It was just confusing that it looked like there's an option to remove spells so it bothered me.
I'll check out your guide as well for some useful info.
Cheers mate. ;)

Just in case anyone really, really, really wants to remove spells and re-add them you can do so by leveling down to level 1 and leveling back up (by giving and taking away experience using the console). But then you would only get back two spells each level.
