hello guys,

I'm newbie here & didn't see this type of discussion in this community. So, I decided to make one for who love to watch TV shows on daily basis..I want to know that which is the longest running TV Show according to Guiness Book of World Records?? Share with us…

I don't know about the GBR, but the answer is Meet the Press.

A lot comes down to how you define things. Do you mean longest in total years? Do interrupted seasons count? Or would you prefer most episodes? Do you count episodes by how they are filmed (stories) or how they are shown? Do you make a distinction between programs which run for half an hour, those which run for an hour, and those which are longer? If you do look at running time, do you take into account that the average running time today is substantially shorter than it used to be?

As Galraen said, if you go purely by number of years on the air, the answer will be Meet the Press, but there's a couple of caveats there. Not only is It a weekly show, but the entire format has changed substantially since it debuted in 1947.

If you want to exclude news programs, then you'll want to look at Music and the Spoken Word, a half hour program of inspirational messages from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

If you want scripted drama, then you need to look at Hallmark's Hall of Fame, which is an anthology show.

To answer your question, however, the show credited by GBR as the longest-running television drama is Guiding Light, a daytime drama (ie. soap opera) which ran on TV for 57 years, and on radio for 15 years before that.

Shows..

Law and order SVU seasons are too long and each season have many episodes. It is the longest running show.

Simpsons is the best longest running TV show.This show's all seasons getting good response by people.Simpsons is a good cartoon for children and elders some characters are ok role models the language is not too bad.My whole family also like this show.In this show all the character is so funny,but Maggie Simpson is my favorite character in this show.Such a fantastic longest TV show.

I agreed with you Micael.Simpsons is the longest running TV show.Simpsons is a great tv show which i watching from long time.I watched all seasons of Simpsons.It is the most popular tv show.

first though X files was the longest, just checked - 9 years (1993 - 2002)

Why do people keep coming up with wrong answers when the correct answers were covered in the first two replies? X-Files, at a mere 9 years, isn't even close to being in the running, quite a short lifespan compared to the real long runners!
