Beta seemed to go well

Post by Ragin Cajun »

The game beta seemed to go well this past weekend. I really liked what I saw and how the game flowed. After so many years of Warcraft it took a little while to adjust to the game mechanics but once I got that it was pretty easy.

Anyone else get in on the beta? Wondering what you all thought.

I liked it very much.
The dialogue, story and companion aspect I feel work very well. The game has flaws, it has some areas I hope to see improved very fast - but overall, I'm glad I preordered as soon as I did and that I bought the CE.

I can see myself loose a lot of free time in this game and what makes it even better - I can see myself playing this as casual as real life dictates without feeling bad that I can't rush to end and PvP or raid.
If I like end-game, fine - but simply playing through the stories will keep me for a while and then stop/take break if I don't feel like playing any more.

I already know the first 4 characters to play through.

It could really be a MMO for non-MMO'ers. The beta even convinced one of my friends at work who were complaining it wasn't KOTOR3 ... until he tried it.

I enjoyed the Beta as well, although it was not without flaws. The best I can say is that it is a lot of fun, but if you want to play it as a single player I think you will get annoyed very quickly. The Republic classes may need more balancing, I played as a smuggler and many of your class skills require using the cover system which can be dodgy and wastes time.

Most important, if what you love about KOTOR was meaningful choices, character customization, gameplay mechanics... you will likely be disappointed by TOR, at least at first.

Can't seem to recall many meaningful choices, character customization or gameplay mechanics from KOTOR that aren't surpassed by TOR.
Unless pause is important.

And I can't seem to recall many meaningful choices or character customization that wasn't purely aesthetic.

Ok that is a little harsh Character Customization begins at Level 10. :D

As an action game it is truly amazing fun... but it is more akin to Dungeon Siege 3 than KOTOR 3.Ad

And at first, I did miss Pause :)

But you implied there were (significantly) more customization and meaningful choices in KOTOR? That the mechanics were better. And apparently now, that it was more of a RPG.
Not the other way around.

So while it's been some years since I've played KOTOR numerous times, I don't recall any such things. Sure, I liked KOTOR but lets not down out in nostalgia. TOR offers these things as well for those who wanted KOTOR3. The only thing you're not getting is the single player .... and pause.

But I don't want to be locked out of parts of the game simply because I have no real life friends willing to pay a subscription for make believe! Also, I'd miss pause. Oh, I'd miss it so very much :P Luckily, I don't much care for Bioware outside of KotOR, so I'm not getting much of a raw deal.
