Octuple backstab damage bug?

Octuple backstab damage bug?

My Assassin's backstab multiplier is x8 thanks to the improved Short Sword of Backstabbing (Rogue Rebalancing). However, it seems to actually be weaker than septuple damage somehow. It does anywhere from 40 to 100+ damage. Is this right? My character's strength is 22, btw.
