Fighter to be dualled to Druid in BG2

Post by skoval »

I want to start as fighter in BG1, dual him at some point to druid and continue in BG2.
To make things harder I rolled a char without modifying stats, only pressing Reroll. Now he has 15/13/13/7/15/18 and I am going to bump all stats up via available books. I also got bow++ and spear++ at the start.
Now I have some questions concering char's transition to BG2.
The point is not to make a power character but to play a druid and try to make him useful.

1) Will I be able to reset fighter profs in BG2? What's the official way? And what's the better path of placing proficiency points considering weapons available to druid?
2) I want to dual at 7 or 9 at maximum. What's the best way to do it to avoid cheating and to minimize second class relevelling time? I've completed BG1 only once and never saw how transition to BG2 is implemented.

Do the stats break down as

Str 15
DX 13
Con 13
Int 7
Wis 15
cha 18

I only ask to clarify as you need 17 in both Wisdom and Charisma as well as 15 in strength to make the switch to Druid.

As long as you do wait until BG2 to dual class you will be able to select a kit and choose new proficiencies.

I personally would recommend going all out for scimitars.

I'd go for level 9 out of the two, maximising your hit points and gaining an extra proficiency. That way you could have 5 stars in Scimitar, two in dual wielding and one in a missile weapon.

Some might say that level 13 is the best to switch classes from fighter, but it takes a very long time for a Druid to go from level 13 to level 15; s I'd stick to level 9.

You'll be able to spend 7 proficiency points freely in BG2 before dualing.

I'd put 5 points into daggers since throwing daggers are so good and 2 into clubs. Use the 4 points you get during the dualing period to raise other skills so they aren't lost, like sling, staff, spear, scimitar or a weapon style.

If you use throwing daggers for rangers there's no disadvantage in choosing the berserker kit. I assume that you made your fighter true neutral, else even the best stats won't allow dualing.

galraen, I hope to inscrease wisdom to 17+ with books. I've read that BG+TotSC have 3 of them in the game.

kmonster, i suspect that i won't be able to place any stars in non-druid skills such as weapon styles after dualling. Am I wrong?

Thanks for your opinions. Now i decided to level up to 9 to ease the transition.

Yes you're wrong. Druids are allowed to put 1 point into weapon styles (just create one in BG2 to see) and after dualing has been completed you can spend proficiency points for specializing just like a fighter.

Many combat options work well, dualwielding scimitars, dualwielding scimitar and club, combining throwing dagger or sling or dart with shield and scimitar/club or with staff/spear in melee ... , all of them have their advantages and disadvantages so I can't even say which is best.

Which option do you want ? You can only put 5 stars into one weapon type.
Did you play BG2 before and do you have ToB installed ?

I've never finished BG2's main campaign yet.

Don't have it installed right now either. I'll install it later if I'll finish 1st one.
Anyway since I'll be able to redistribute skill points, I'll probably experiment with them when I get closer to Irenicus.
