Turn Imoen into a mage.
Turn Imoen into a mage.
At what point is this a good thing? I tried it at leverl 5 but then I realized that without her skills with a bow I have only three fighters and a druid and two mages. No power at all. Is there anyway to make the Druid, Jaheria a bowman?
Unless your protagonist is a thief you should be more concerned about losing her trap detection/removal and lockpicking. Before dualing her I'd suggest dumping one of the fighters and picking up one of the other thieves available (Safana for instance can be found n the coastal area with the lighthouse, beware of the sirens though). As to what level to make the change, I usually go for level 7, but if you intend carrying on the BG2 then be aware that she'll start as a level 6 thief dualled to a level 8 (?) mage.
You could use shadowkeeper (or coastkeeper if your using the straight BG game and not Tutu or BG Trilogy) to change Jaheira's proficiencies to improve her ability with sling or darts. She can't use any bows however.
PS I just read your post in the other thread, and you definitely need another rogue if you're going to DC Imoen. The problem is if you try dumping Khalid or Minsc then you also lose their companion (Jaheira or Dynaheir). The only way around this is to get either Minsc or Khalid killed off, not nice but needs must etc.. I'd suggest Khalid, I can't go into to much depth in explaining why without a spoiler, but he would be by far the best one to 'accidentally' lose!
PPS With the party you have, even after dumping one of the fighters and replacing him with Safana you should have plenty of firepower to handle anything you come across. If you want fireball, explore the Firewine ruins.

You need to get the detect traps up to 80% anyway, which means gaining another level at least.

You will lose Khalid anyway when you transfer to BG2.

If you really want to dualclass Imoen wait until she reaches level 6, put the thieving skill points all into disarm traps and dualclass her into illusionist afterwards (if you keep Dynaheir choose conjurer instead).
The dualing period will be long and painful, she won't get her thieving skills back before gaining another 60,000 XP and reaching mage level 8. Locks can be bashed or opened with the level 2 mage spells but traps can be detected with the cleric spell but not disarmed so you'll have some painful save/reload.
But do you really need 2 mages ? When you keep her a pure class thief you can put more points into stealth to scout the area and backstab for quadruple damage.
The main benefit of dualing Imoen is being able to kick out Dynaheir and Minsc to replace them with other characters without loosing the arcane magic option, if you plan doing so follow the plot and go to the bandit camp, there are quite some useful NPCs in the chapter 4 areas.
