Energy weapons vs. Guns

Hey guys I've been playing Fallout: New Vegas a lot (Fallout 3 not so much), but I've never really used energy weapons or invested skill points in it - I always use "regular" guns. I've started on a new playthrough and is considering using energy weapons, but since I've never used them I don't know the advantages or disadvantages. Which of the two weapon types are best (if it's that simple)?

I don't know about New Vegas, never played it, but I have used both in F3.
Initially projectile weapons are better, but eventually energy weapons rule, especially if you have the Mothership Zeta DLC installed.
A Missile Launcher or Fatman is always useful to have available mind, and the flame thrower comes in useful also, but for most purposes the energy weapons are eventually supreme in my experience.
A 10mm submachine gun should keep you going until the better energy weapons become available, I've never found it necessary to put many points in small guns for that purpose either.

I like guns more. First of all : AMR is the king of all weapons, when coupled with A-Piercing ammo you will make enemies drop.
Furthermore guns are more common, yet also more diverse than Energy Weapons. Shotguns anyone? Guns only.
Finally : i'm really not into those red lines and green balls that come out of energy weapons.
