BGT + Shadowkeeper + Other Mods?

Post by DoriSai »

I have several questions, having just recently gotten back into playing Baldur's Gate and etc thanks to the D&D Anthology released by Atari.

Firstly, I'm using the Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod right now so I assume that Shadowkeeper would be best to use for editing, if not please let me know.

Second, is there a way to edit appearance and use say the 0x7C color for hair? I tried doing it normally and it just crashes as I try to load. I'm trying to get close to a match to the character Rayne's hair color as I'm using that image for profile pics.

Third, is it possible to force a multiclass with Kensai/Ranger/Sorcerer? Or even just Ranger/Sorcerer? As far as I can tell even with Shadowkeeper I'm not noticing any way to multiclass with Sorcerer, and the only possible multiclass for Ranger is Ranger/Cleric. I know it's possible to dualclass the Ranger/Sorcerer combo but I'm not interested in dualclassing.

Fourth, what mods do you all recommend for greater enjoyment? Preferably ones that add on to the current game (as opposed to replacing it or something). If I have to start with a clean install for whichever mods you recommend please tell me.

Fifth and lastly, is there somewhere that lists the stats and progression of the various NPC and monster classes and such, should I ever want to experiment with them?

PS: inb4 new here etc

I'm not able to answer every question, but I will do what I can.

You are correct in that Shadowkeeper is the proper utility to use, since the entire trilogy is played using BG2's engine.

Those unusual multiclasses are not possible; this is a hard-coded engine limitation with no workaround that doesn't involve a complete rebuilding of the source code. I've never mucked around in SK, but I *think* the best you can do is take a 'standard' multiclass, and add kits to it. I know in the base game, you can choose a kit in the first class of a dual class, such as the popular Berserker/Cleric or Kensai/Mage.

If you are only looking for add-ons to the main game, I'd reccomend Unfinished Business and the NPC Projects. There's also BG2 Tweaks for convenience.

You can find all the tables you asked about and more at Planet BaldursGate - News, Screenshots, Previews, Reviews, Guides

1) It depends on what you want to modify, but let's say that Shadowkeeper + Near Infinity are what you're looking for.

2) Simply you can't use some colors every spots, try a different similar color. If you pick a color near to the initial one you can be almost sure it will work ;)

3) Yes you can, there's a mod for that that spawns an npc able change your class in every combination you desire. I can't remember the name cuz I never use it, try to google it.

4) It depends on what lvl of difficulty you want to play, if you already know how the vanilla game ends so I could suggest you some alternatives, if you are against powerfull items/foes, etc
I, as many others, can claim to know every single dialog, fight, scene, place of the game. So my fun resides in challanging overpowered foes using strategy more than op items/spells.
Actually Im playing with Ascension+Tactics+SCSII+BG2 Tweaks+Valen+Solafein+Improved Asylum+Planar Sphere mod, solo at insane.
Plus you may want to install Ease of use, Unfinished Business, Improved Items, Longer Road for fun.

Hmm I've been a bit busy for a while so I haven't dealt with modding it for a bit, but out of curiosity I decided to look in since I'm thinking of doing a clean install again and starting from scratch.

I will be looking for all the mods you mentioned, and once I have that set up I plan to do some serious digging on order of installation and asking around once I have a mod list I plan to use.
