FONV Dead Money
FONV Dead Money
I've just had the worst gaming experience of my life playing this mod, it is the worst plugin it's eveer been my misfortune to play.
Due to a blunder in saving games I was confronted with the option of slogging through this POS or starting the game all over again. Well I struggled through a lot of grief, until I reached the stage where you have to 'deal' with Dean, and I could take no more. So it's either a complete restart, or more likely, find something else to play.
Nought out of ten? Shoot 0/1,000 doesn't describe how absolutley dreadful this plugin is.

The part before you reach the Casino is annoying, on the verge of frustrating. Once you're in the casino and you learn more of the story, I found this DLC to be better. I hope that that helps you persevere.
Still, of all the DLC for NV, it's the worst. Personally, I loved Old World Blues to death. That's awesome DLC.

I actually really liked it. The story, characters and atmosphere were great. It was kinda challenging, so that was also a plus. Thought it was almost as good as OWB. While Honest Hearts was not quite what I expected it to be, personally, I found Lonesome Road to be the most disappointing since it didn't live up to its potential.
....and that infuriating beeping, followed by yet another death! Since posting the last message I've looked at a few sites about the mod, and evidently there are quite a few bugs, and I seemed to find all of them! Which is obviously going to sway my opinion. If I were to try again, forewarned it might not seem so bad; but I did find the storyline poor, which is all down to taste of course.
I manged to get out of there by using the console, I had no choice when Dean became unkillable thanks to one of those bugs. I did find it annoying that the NPCs kept referring to the Big Empty with no option for me to say 'Hey I just came from there...."; whioch is piss poor writing IMHO.
Being a glutton for punishment I went on to Honest Hearts , which seemed to consist of travelling with some caravan guards guarding a non-exixtent caravan, find two dead bodies (Follows Chalk and Daniel) and then go home, nothing to see here!
I have played through OWB, ridiculous storyline, lots of repetetive chores intermingled with some really good quests. Word of warning, don't kill any robots when you first run through the X-13 Research Facility tests or the final test will bug out and be incompletable! Overall not bad and worth doing if you can stand the tedium of all the fedex quests.
Lonesome road, another one with a daft and extremely confusing storyline, without a staisfactory explanation of whta the hell is going on. Evidently you pissed off another courier and he wants to exact revenge on you and the rest of the world or something, meh. However having said all that, and throw in the fact that it's nothing but a dungeon crawl, for some reason I actually enjoyed the mod, but then I am a weirdo!

Killing Follows Chalk fails every quest line in Honest Hearts and gives you the Chaos in Zion quest which is basically just grabbing the map so you can find your way back to the Mojave. A lot of people have killed the guy because he looks so much like everyone that's shooting at you at the first firefight. But he's actually not hostile, and is your introduction point to the DLC questline, so you have to talk to him.galraen wrote: Being a glutton for punishment I went on to Honest Hearts , which seemed to consist of travelling with some caravan guards guarding a non-exixtent caravan, find two dead bodies (Follows Chalk and Daniel) and then go home, nothing to see here!

I did suss that out by reading the walkthrough after the event, I realised that something must have gone wrong as there's no way the mod could be that short by design. I'm pretty sure I didn't kill him, but I guess friendly fire is always a possibility. Damn poor design that that can happen so easily though.
Thanks for the tip though, if I play again I'll certainly will be watching out for that.

No arguments from me that it's a bad design. That kinda goes with the whole Bethesda package. Sometimes they do things that just leave you scratching your head. It's compounded by the fact that a lot of people never even got the notifications of any failed quests at that point.

Including me, otherwise I would have been able to reload a save. It's compounded by the fact that a lot of people never even got the notifications of any failed quests at that point.
One point however, this time it's not Bethesda to blame, it was Obsidian.
Such an easy thing to fis too, just make the dudes essential, which I'll do myself if I ever play again.

I've have been playing this DLC so long my hair is starting to hurt.
Can it be finished?
I'm at the vault, talked to Elijah, got him to come to the vault. Killed him. Did not take the gold.
Now I can't get past the Force fields. Even tried using the tcl console command.
(which made me made. Always try avoid using these and walkthroughs)
Got through the force field using the tcl command, even got to the door leading to the Villa. Say's I need a key.
Any advice other then give up and move on?

Just played this and trapped Elijah. As I remember, I lured him up to the vault and before he arrived I left the vault, closed the door to the vault (important to do that) and ran back to where the hologram guards had been to hide from him. Then when Elijah discovered my char missing I assume he had been trapped in the vault and started the destruction sequence. Found out later from my Quest Log ,once I got to the elevator exit and was out of the hotel, that that was what happened. Anyway after the destruction sequence started ticking (gives you about 1 min to escape) I tried to backtrack to the elevator the same way I entered in the first place only to find myself back near the vault and at least one force field down that let me get out and complete the mod. Had to try this many times before I succeeded. One time I waited in the vault and as Elijah entered it I slipped right past him without him apparently noticing me and got to the elevator but I reloaded and couldn't duplicate that stunt.

I found Sierra Madre pretty easy going this last time thru. I waited to start this until my character was maxed out on all skills. Had already completed the HH and OWB mods. Got to Dog and let him stay as his God self to the end where I helped his God and Dog personalities to merge. Used him only as far as the medical clinic and picked up Christine. Then used her with her radio interference perk to clear out all the other areas and the radios as they became available. Then used Dean to help me explore the more cloud affected areas with his delayed gas cloud perk.
Exploring, finding keys, the vending machine disks and disabling the radios that set off the collar was my priority. Only after I had all the areas cleared as much as possible and found the important vending machine holodisks to get the upgrades and .308 ammo for the automatic rifle and three holorifle upgrades did I finally take the three to their grand opening positions.
The zombies apparently don't respawn until after you've triggered the grand opening event. That made getting back there for the grand opening event fairly easy. I found that getting back from the bell tower to the villa and past the locals was the hardest part next to navigating the way back to the elevator after Elijah is trapped in the vault. Once you've played these mods thru a few times you quickly learn what works and what's important.
