Few questions from a newbie
Few questions from a newbie
Hi everyone!
I feel like i need an MBA in order to understand the mechanics of old school RPGs!!!
So a few questions about NWN2:
1) why sometimes when i lvl-up, i get to choose only skills (i play as cleric), and sometime i get to choose both skills and feats (never happened with cleric), and other times i get to distribute a point to my stats? What it depends on?
2) Right now I'm cleric lvl 5, and Barbarian lvl 2. And the only spell i have is the "expell dead", which i had from lvl 1. If i press "F", i don't see a single spell there. If i press "B", i get a list of spells, but i can't use any of them!
3) I remember playing NWN1 as cleric, i had a buff called might. Where/how/when do i get it?
Thanks!

Use B to open your spell selection, then you need to click the spells you want to cast, which should fill the gaps on the right hand side. You then need to rest to cast the spells. Using F you can open the quick cast menu, or drag the spells to the hotbar.
As a Cleric you need to have good Wisdom to cast spells. I think you need a minimum of 11 points (10 + 1 for every level of cleric) in Wisdom to cast 1st level spells. Cross classing a Cleric is not really recommended at least not for a while, for better combat, they have good prestige classes, Cleric/Warpriest is a pretty good build.
Clerics only gain feats at every other level or so.

Clerics gets new feats every third level and a bonus to their attributes every fourth level.Darth Gavinius wrote:Clerics only gain feats at every other level or so.

The panel on the left shows the spells you have available. The panel on the right shows the spells you want to memorize. You need to (I think) click on the spells in the left panel to fill up the boxes in the right panel. Then when you rest, you'll memorize the spells in the right panel, and you'll be able to cast them.

You don't have to drag them, you just click them - multiple times if you want the spell more than once.
By the looks of the jpeg you put up, you have up to caster level 3 cleric spells in your book, but you only have slots for entry and 1st level spells. This means that you only have a Wisdom score of 11, or you are under an effect that reduced your wisdom attribute. Unless you get your wisdom base score up, you wont be able to cast anything more than lvl 1 spel

Neverwinter Nights is an oldschool rpg... Man I feel old.
Ok, so I'd guess you're not all that familiar with 3rd edition d&d? Different stats matter for different classes. For a cleric or druid, Wisdom is most important, but for a wizard it's Intelligence, and for sorcerers and bards it's charisma. Those are the stats these classes "cast spells from". Like Darth Gavinus said, a druid and cleric need a Wisdom score of 10+X to be able to cast X level spells. So, 11 - 1st level, 12 - 2nd level and so on. (Baldur's Gate didnt work that way, though).
Feats are not received every level, that would be too good. For the same reason you don't get to raise your stats every level. You DO get to raise your skills every level, but are not allowed to pump them up over a certain extent. Not sure how it is calculated, but the system won't let you dump all skill points to quickly get, say, 30 points in concentration. Makes some sense, I suppose - it would be silly to have a 2nd level fighter having the discipline of an epic, 200 years old samurai. Stuff like that. You can save these points for later, though - not assign them on level 3 and they'll still be there on level 4. This can be useful sometimes.
The game has quite a comprehensive description system - just read what it says in those explanations. What spells you do or don't get as a cleric depends on your "domains", too, but I don't know how that works, I've never played a cleric.
Hope this clears come doubts at least.

The reason you can't memorize those spells is because you're trying to memorize level 3 spells but you only have enough Wisdom to cast level 1 spells.
However, you should be able to memorize level 1 spells and cantrips (or level 0 spells as they are apparantly called in the Russian version).
Just click the #1 in the left window, and click on the spells you want to memorize, they will then go into your spell book. Do the same for cantrip spells and then rest.
After that when you click "F" you should see all the spells you memorize and be able to cast them.
But if you want to go forward and play a cleric, you might want to start a new game and make a character with higher Wisdom stat. Otherwise you won't be able to cast all the spells that clerics have access too.

For Chapter 1, it is you + 3 companions. In Chapter 2 you will get an additional free henchman for a time. Everything, the expansion packs etc are "scaled" for a party of 4.
