Skill missing?

Post by densorteengel »

Hi all, hope that someone knows an answer to this..

I just imported my character (fighter lvl 7 dualled to thief, currrently lvl 20) after the Hells trial, and for some reason my Set Trap ability is gone ?? Resting didn't help, so I am a little lost.

Anyone know what is going on?

PS: I also somehow gained the ability to cast Horror... didn't see that one before?

Edit: Just checked my last TOB save, and my character is still having the Set Trap ability - and CAN'T cast Horror.. I tried exporting her again, under a different name, and importing again - this time I didn't have the Set Trap (again) but instead of the Horror spell I can now cast Larloch's minor drain????? I have no mods running that I know of (can't load GB3 fixpack and SK isn't working), I have the latest patch.. pls help?

This is unlikely, but is she wearing heavy i.e. better than studded leather armor? I've never played with fighter/thief duals so I don't know this for sure, but it's possible that doing so disables the trap setting ability. I know multiclasses can't stealth in heavy armor, so it may apply to other thief skills.

This sounds like something wrong with the game, though. I'm absolutely sure of it if the spells she's suddenly getting are accessed via an actual spellcasting button and not through her items or special abilities. The PC gets a few minor bonus spells at the start of SoA as "bhaalspawn powers" that are dependent on alignment, but those are taken away when Irenicus takes your essence/life force/soul/whatever and AFAIK they are not given back to you.

If all else fails, try reinstalling. Sorry I don't have a better idea of what could be going wrong.

No, I am wearing the shadow dragon scales, which counts as leather.. Oh well, I'll try to reinstall and see if it happens again.

The Bhaal-powers should return if you start a new game over AFAIK?
And its the *special ability* button to the far right I'm referring to yes, not the Item-button :)

I think it is possible the game applied an effect on you to grant you Bhaal powers and in the process messed up the innate abilities granted by your class/kit. Try importing at any other point of the game, see if that helps.

Other than that, I can say that the game does have a large number of bugs which you will encounter without the fixpack, so if problems like these persist, try a fresh install with latest patch, GB3 fixpack and BG2 Tweakpack. Make sure to backup saves directories first.

Probably yes :D
Sadly.. I thought I HAD the fixpack.. turns out it's only the tweakpack... Ohdear, off to uninstall and reinstall EVERYTHING from scratch.. again

Sigh... does anyone know which one to install first? I tried to google it, but no luck (or I'm going blind  ) I want the tweakpack, fixkpack, unfinished business and SK .. :)

Here's the order (I think):

BG2 SoA
BG2 ToB
Latest Bioware patch (make sure it's the patch for SoA if you're running SoA only or the patch for ToB if you are running SoA + ToB).
G3 Fixpack
G3 Tweak pack
Banter packs, quest packs, Tactical mods, etc.

Thank you :) :)
Darn it, I had hoped I could skip the whole re-installing, but nooo :D oh well, I'll just get to it once I'm done with my current game, no point in quitting now, I'm soon off to spellhold :)

Come to wonder - do I HAVE TO uninstall the game? Or can I just uninstall the tweakpack and SK and go from there?

You can try that, but the chances of success are much lower. You may cause errors in the game which you will not notice immediately, but only much later, and then you're back to wondering where the hell they come from. In my experience it is always best to start from a fresh install. You can try other things, but there's a good reason I recommended you this install order :)
