Trial of the Elders (MMXII)

Post by GawainBS »

The first & third elder are doable. I grinded them down with Lightning Bolt, Zap & Solar Ray. Occasionally disengaged to increase mana regen. I was lvl 19, with 11 & 13 in Arcane & Crystal respectively.

How powerful were you when you did this? I kept getting fireballed to death. Come to think of it, maybe I should try my shield? The minions are easy but the fireball is deadly. My equipment was fully repaired. I can try to get together gold for fireshield also.

Euhm, none of the Elders I have taken down used Fireballs, or spells of any kind. The first one is the one with the pillars, the second one (not the Banshee) was the one in the waterpart.
The Fireballing Elder is the final one, which I just avoided.

How did you avoid the fireballing elder?

Nothing special. Just don't be where his Fireball is. A bit of situational awareness is all.

I don't seem to have the knack :( I'm farming outside skuldoon to get more powerful. I have level 17 character now.

If you're there, the trial has been done, right? Before the trial, I had both my second tier classes, and I had farmed some dragons, which are ridiculously easy in MMXII.

If you don't have the patch yet, then you should get it, as it reduces the cooldown for potions, which makes the final trial much easier. Also note that healing potions and greater healing potions have separate cooldowns, so you can use both. Otherwise, if you invest some points in the Scout skill, then you can see which alcove the elder is using, and if you stand against the wall right under him, then he can't really hit you.

Actually you can go to skuldoon once you get galdryns horn and report to the king. You can fight the poison gas worms and the chunnelers for xp. I am now level 19!

What is your strategy against dragons? Did you go to their spawning grounds or did you just grind in an area with dragons?

Anything more to say about the 4th elder? You have to kill all the ghost knights/archers and during that time he always kills me with fireballs. I might try now with sword and shield.

I can't get my rogue tier 2 because they want me to get a painting in the forbidden lands which vortugg has closed. The crystal ward of fire is a level 9 celestial spell and it's also not available in shops.

I like the tactical game, but that's rough having a caster you can't see bombing you with unlimited spells whilst you cannot neutralize him. I think the game's difficulty is too much for me; I am a casual gamer.

Good tactics. Unfortunately my scout is still at one and I spent my adv points leveling celestial magic and nether.

Is the fourth elder immune to magic? Maybe I can just snipe him with lightning while eating some pizza.

How high was your scout to see that?

I'm pretty sure it was 5 at the time. You can also just keep moving and hope the elder misses you.

My tactics for dragons was drawing one away from the nests (a hostile one spawns each time), then draw it to the trees, and hide behind a tree, pop out when my magic is ready, blast the dragon, rinse, repeat. Nothing difficult at it.
I can't really help you any further with the final elder. I found the fight rather easy, as I was barely taking any damage. I might have had flameprotection gear at the time, but I'm not sure. I didn't get him that much.

I think different races have different resists if they kept that from CE. But I don't know, I was taking a lot of damage from the fireballs. I had 30 vitality too.

I can probably find this out for sure if I look at the memory. My urgoth rogue/fighter is level 28, has 20 vitality, and takes tiny damage from fire drakes.
