Best bow?

Post by nmyerson »

Hi all, first time posting here...

3rd time through, wanted to try an archer after seeing the damage Illsara (sp?) did to me.

But I can't think of the best bow...

Gesen?
Taralash?
Darkfire?

None are compound and none have a + to the damage modifer. So is the best choice the Heartseaker? Or does Gesen's electrical bonus make up for it... seems like it would.

And what determines the modifer to hit creatures? The thaco or the ammo? ie I'm fighting a demilich, using Taralash and +2 arrows, will I hit him?

thanks!

It's the enchantment level of the arrows that determines what can be hit. For weapons that create their own ammo (such an Gesen Bow en Firetooth Crossbow), the enchantment level of the ammo is equal to the echantment level of the weapon itself.

Gesen Bow is the best if you need to kill tough creatures (high enchantment needed). However, for everyday use I suggest the Tuigan Bow +1: you won't notice the Thac0 difference because of your archer bonuses, and the extra attack will let you cause more damage each round.
Use the Quiver of Plenty +2, with a bundle of +3 arrows in case the enemy requires that enchantment level to be hit. If you need to go higher than +3, switch to Gesen Bow. :D

Actually, I like Thaseron's (sp?). +3 arrows, at a normal rate of fire (unlike the Gesen's SLOW arrows).
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

Hmm, but if you're going to not use Tuigans, why not then choose the Strong Bow with its +3 damage and the unlimited +2 arrows.

Seems tansh (sp?) bow with its +3 arrows would fall short here.

Use Gesen's bow with a quiver of plenty+2 and switch to phantom arrows for tough monsters. You can't do more damage than that.
You can't handle the truth!

I used to think the slow arrows of gesen was a drawback, I mean really, shouldn't arrows forged of lighting go Reall really fast?

Anyways, if you put arrows into it, ike +2 ones, they go at normal speed. Good stuff,

My 2cents worth.. for a bow, get the Gesen. For crossbow, get the Firetooth.

Well, if they were lightningarrows, they should have to go fast, probably a bit to difficult with animations, or to balance the bow
