vorpal weapons

Post by dranatos »

ok found out the hard way that timestop doesnt work on some baddies.
are there any baddies who are immune to vorpal weapons? or spells that prevent vorpal hits? eg mantle like spells or protection from magical energy/weapons?

love them instakill weapons like those that kill undead (byebye lich) and vorpals but try not to overuse them as it feels slightly cheating.

at 10% vorpal hit , chances are with 2 whirlwinds (considering misses) anything should die but doesnt seem to happen with bosses.

10% is not very much, its only on in ten and that, in my experience, is often the most pathetic enemies in the game. Goblins, or those small pathetic spiders.

The monsters get a saving throw vs death, i beleive, and ussually only the low level monsters fail that.
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

I don't consider it cheating to use a piece of equipment that has a good plot behind it. The Githyanki are widely known for their use of VERY sharp swords etc. The Vorpal blade represents that as a sword so sharp it can cut through armour and necks with ease. Thus the good benefits of it. I your character can find it then its a good weapon to have.

Alright...some clarification:
It's only the Silver Sword that allows a save vs death at -2 (but it also has a 25% instead of 10)
And yes, most bosses are immune to vorpal effects. Also to nice spells like maze and imprisonment. In general all insta-kill effect.

But the vorpal weapons still work against firegiants, mindflayers, drow, beholders which is nice...I for one don't think they've lost their usefulness.

How does a vorpal work on a beholder?
The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.
