I have sticked to Core rules, too; that's why I was spitted out a couple of times in the final battles of ToB and I feel like an idiot.

Cheers

On 'normal' difficulty your characters cannot permanently die (ie. die in an explosion of chunky bits) and I think you learn spells automatically, but there is an XP penalty.

Creatures also do less damage. I noticed this when fighting dragons.
I think the only do 3/4 of their real damage.

Until recently, only ever played core rules. Turned the difficulty up to "hard" a couple of weeks ago for my 2nd playthrough of ToB. It's not as bad as I thought it'd be, though my fighters use "hardiness" a lot more often.

i only turn the difficulty down from core when i am very tired and annoyed and want to make sure that my mages LEARN THEIR SPELLS  . otherwise, i like experience and dislike effort, so core it is.
