I have sticked to Core rules, too; that's why I was spitted out a couple of times in the final battles of ToB and I feel like an idiot.

what major differences besides the hp rolls exsist between core and "normal" difficulty?

On 'normal' difficulty your characters cannot permanently die (ie. die in an explosion of chunky bits) and I think you learn spells automatically, but there is an XP penalty.

Creatures also do less damage. I noticed this when fighting dragons.
I think the only do 3/4 of their real damage.

Until recently, only ever played core rules. Turned the difficulty up to "hard" a couple of weeks ago for my 2nd playthrough of ToB. It's not as bad as I thought it'd be, though my fighters use "hardiness" a lot more often.

i only turn the difficulty down from core when i am very tired and annoyed and want to make sure that my mages LEARN THEIR SPELLS
. otherwise, i like experience and dislike effort, so core it is.
