Trouble with Melissan
Am I the only one having trouble with Melissan? I got to the 3rd time you have to fight her (after defeating the Ice Prince) and I can't beat her anymore! I keep getting clobbered by the monsters she summons. Are they unlimited? Please, any suggestions? My main character is a 26th level Paladin. I have Minsc, Jaheira, Imoen, Aerie, and Nalia. I got so desperate I even tried it at the easiest setting... still no go! Please, help me Obi-Wan-Kenobi, you're my only hope...
I just finished her 10 mins ago....
I was a lv30 cavalier and having Minsc, Sarevok, Jaheria, Aerie, and Imoen in my team. I found those shadow slayers are pretty hard to kill, anyway, just concentrate on Melissan. This isnt a time to save all you spells and potions, I think having some tanks in your team in a good idea, since most summoned monsters are no use at all. I always keep one Planter and a elemental prince in front of the big cube before I turn the energy source off....Oh, by the way, since you cant rest here, so having some wish spell comes really handy.Good Luck!

Finally!!! I was able to finish it, thanks for the tip re: not saving spells I used a lot of summoned monsters to occupy her summoned monsters. I did keep it at the easiest difficulty level though I might try it at the Core Rules difficulty setting after I've recovered. I was beginning to get frustrated, phew! Too bad it's all over. Am now waiting for Pool of Radiance 2
always ignore the summoned monsters, just go straight for her. a couple greater whirlwind attacks and she'll fall every time.
also traps work wonderful against her since you know where she'll show up.
she is very easy when you know how to beat her. my first time through, i wasted almost every spell i had trying to kill all of the summons, but they kept coming...of course finally i realized i needed to kill her, but tby that time i had almost nothign left to use and had a great time being creative in my attacks against her.

I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor
Yeah, I beat her without any real problems, simply by concentrating all my Fighters on her, and her alone. My mages did nothing but help keep my Fighters alive.
I enjoyed it though, you slowly work your way through your spells and potions, getting weaker, meanwhile she gets stronger every time. Plus you can't rest, a feature that would have benefited so many sections of BG2......

I've taken out melissan both as a Wizardslayer/Thief(in my mind the cheesiest dualing in the game. Assassinate with Carsomyr and with 100% magic immunity is just too much), Paladin, Fighter/Cleric and Necromancer.
She is pretty simple actually. You just use your mages to keep her spelldefenses down(those pesky weaponimmunities spells) with an occasional comet to stun her pets, have your clerics and mages summoning in pets to keep her pets busy(Mordekainens sword is the best here because its so resistant to most types of damages. Planetars and Elemental princes...and Greater elementals arn't bad either) and keep my fighters(rangers, paladins)and fighting type clerics/ thieves on Melissan herself. Due to her vorpal strike your pets arn't much worth in battle with melissan herself.
