Yuan-ti in Chult

Post by Claudius »

I notice that you can sneak past the Yuan-ti with a disguise. I'd rather just fight them all. Is it really quite difficult? Why do the makers of the game make a different method than just fighting? Is it so difficult or did they just want to make two paths which is kind of cool.

There are actually 3 possible ways to complete the yuan-ti quest but if it seems you want to battle them all and that could be the bloodiest way to complete the quest. As for difficulty in doing it hmmmm without giving anything away lets just say it may be difficult - for a sort of comparison how difficult did you find the battles when you left the goblin warren and entered the fortress - if you remember that battle imagine it now with yuan-ti warriors and assorted spell-casters and you can sort of judge how difficult it could be.

I recommend having fun exploring the yuan-ti temple as it is quite an unusual place to visit instead of just bashing them all from the start - there are a few fun things to see, interesting dialogues to be had and things to listen to. Remember that you just crossed a portal to a southern jungle on the far side of the world - a place your characters will probably never get to visit - might as well do some sight seeing while you are here and pick up some souvenirs - plus its warm and that's a nice relief from the cold of the Dales.

As for different ways - isn't it better to have multiple ways to complete a quest - my problem with IWD2 is the lack of different ways to complete quests -- regardless of what way you pick to complete the yuan-ti quest there will always be a battle of some sort

I beat the guardian!

SPOILER WARNING: The yuan ti temple was cool. I admit to looking at the walkthrough to see what to do with the hearts. I should have known 'heartless zombies' would seak hearts. I didn't think I would get much loot from a tedious fight so I just ditched the Yuan'ti and fought the guardian.

My tank was amraith (I am playing the pre-created hands of fury). He has a 20 dex though low con. He is tricked out in all the AC items, though he does not use expertise. He also has 4 levels of enchanter to go with his fighter component. So he can cast 4 mirror images. When the MI ran out Fissera the druid cast tortoise shell on him and I had Makados cleric of talos cast heals and never needed it but had a resurrection. Fissera did most of the damage with 4 call lightning (only 10 damage resistance to electricity).. It took the 10 rounds before they all hit with their second bolt. For summans we had undead, bears, a wyvern, and barbarian warriors. Mirai Wainright the party magic user cast lower resist and then attacked with spells (she also had a lot of buffs for amraith). I should have taken more magic missiles at 1st level slot because that would go through the elemental damage. She did have chain lightning. But basically Fissera was the bug zapper with his call lightning and alicorn lances once lower resist was in place. (call lightning however is not subject to magic resistance!!) Makados also used his manipulation of attack bonus AB using bless, bane, prayer, recital, and aid.

After the fight we dashed to the portail and arrived to see medae pointed out how she had a rougher childhood than Iselore, because Iselore was trying to make out that the stigma of a half elf is as great as a cambion whose mother committed suicide living in the slums of Luskan haha. Then there were seemingly endless waves of 'chumps' to mow down and we didn't get any xp for each kill. But the adrenaline for the fight for Kuldahar was awesome.

Thanks to those who helped me!
