help with shouting

help with shouting

i killed the first dragon ,was told to go visit the graycloaks on top of the mountain,they keep asking me to show them my shout,but i can't do it,what did i miss why cant i shout? did i miss something? any help would be greatly welcomed.

You have to select the shout in the magic menu, and then you have to activate it (by pressing the Z key on the PC). Is that what you're doing?
