Paladin, which God and which kit?
I'm starting a new Paladin, i would like some advice as to which God i should have my paladin worship, and which kit, if any he should use for that God?
For roleplaying reasons, here are some possible gods:
Helm: God of Watchers, highly recomendend, due to paladins protector nature.
Lanthander: No idea what hes god of, Good
Mystra: God of Magick(Or is he a dead oen form the ToT), somewhat neutral, harper supporter, problem is couldnt be an inquistitioner in the god of magicks name.(Kinda Hypocritical)
Talos: Evil god, more of an anti-paladin standpoint
Cyric: Lord of Death/Assassination, Anti-paladin standpoint
Amunator: He's a forgotten god, but hes a god of the sun? maybe a good one?
Wakeen: God of trade/commerce, dead, not really useable
Torm: No idea about this god
I really need a book of Forgotten Realms information, maybe thisll help.
An Inquistor or Undead Hunter/Cavalier in the service of Helm, might be good, but its alittle predictable, go for unquie, but acceptable.

Mirakai, you spammed this thread across two forums--please, don't do that again. I've deleted the other topic. Despite your remarks in BG2/ToB that you weren't getting enough replies over here, you actually had more replies on this forum. And you'll keep getting 'em. They just don't come in by the minute.

He's a paladin who's always mouthing that one line about Helm all the time. Drives one to distraction.Originally posted by Mirakai Starnight

Could have sworn I'd already replied!
The Order of the Radiant Heart are Torm boys (and girls) But you don't get to choose your god (except in your head) I personally think Helm, but why not Garl Glitter Gold?

In SoA I would recommend the Undead hunter but all kits have their good points.
Adjantis was in BG1 and if you have Anomem with you he recognises him (although why you wouldn't....). - Curdis

About Ajantis:
A guy at the Order of the Radient Heart (the prelate, if I'm not mistaken) tells you that he was sad to hear about Firkraags mischief, and that amongst the fallen Paladin which you slew, Ajantis were.
I think that this imformation is available to you only if you're a Paladin (which start the Stronghold quests) - you just have to pay attention to what the man says.
And about the Paladin kits: The Inquisitor is most definitely the greatest by far.
An Inquisitor can battle Undead just as well (or better - think Tanova) as an Undead Hunter with the Amulet of Power.
Also, the Inquisitor is able to deal with mages and liches from the start, which your 12th level wizard most definitely is not.

Well, Helm, and Torm would be the obvious choices, one being God of Law basically, the other of Warrior goodness. I chouse Amunatour, the Sun god because I was an undead hunter. Just seemed to fit.
Why not Garl Glittergold? Since when are paladins gnomes?
oh wait, 3rd edition... Silly me!

So I just stood and listened.

@Sylvanerian,
If you are thinking solo then the amulet arguement makes more sense but given that having an Undead Hunter means you can have more people immune to level drain (someone else takes the amulet) I really don't see it as much of a plan.
The things you give up as an Inquisitor - Spell Use, Cure Disease, Turn Undead. Really are not compensated by the (admitedly) strong benefits of the dispel magic and True Sight. Also one of the NPC's is one so (if you aren't going to play the game all the time your not posting here) you can use both in one run through.
But which god for which kit? - Curdis!

Okay first, i have to apologize to fable for double posting the thread, sorry fable i won't do that again, i guess this counts for my one free newbie mistake? (new to the boards not the game)
Now on to the kits I'm really looking for some input as to which kit goes would roleplaying wise go with each god. I was thinking maybe for the three main paladin gods: Torm, Helm, and Tyr.
My second question, am i the only one who thinks the cavalier kit is the strongest?

you do realize that while a cavalier can't use bows or crossbows he CAN still use thrown weapons like axes(azureedge is handy) and throwing daggers. So in my opinion you get all those nice bonuses which very few items supply. There is only one item in the entire game that provides immunity to fear, and the same for poison. Plus he has immunity to charm. Which if i remember correctly isn't even mentioned in the handbook. Level drain stuff comes a dime a dozen especially in TOB, same with hold and confusion. So what do you think of the cavalier now?

Well, I think we all knew about the throwing axes/daggers bug with the cavalier.
All the paladin kits have immunity to charm.
The Undead Hunter and Inquisotor have immunity to hold, which the cavalier does, he however, as you stated, gets immunity to fear.
So it's really just a case of which immunity do you like best? Fear or Hold.
Immunity to fear can be giving by either a 2. level mage spell and cleric spell, if I'm not quite mistaken, and by Mazzy's special ability (invoke courage).
Immunity to hold can't be given to a fighter type, but low saves will do the job for you, and as you stated, a lot of items grant immunity to hold.
Yet, it's usually in the start of the game that your saves are worst, and that you don't yet have those items...
Still, considering the other bonusses the Paladin kits grant, the cavalier is only usable max 5 times in SoA, and if you roleplay your Paladin, only 3. By ToB the +3 to hit and damage becomes redundant. (imo it's only relavent in the first to dragon battles of SoA)
The Undead Hunter have immunity to level drain and +3 to hit and damage against Undead - the plusses are even more redundant here, as all undead are easy to hit and are usually not that hard to kill.
Both the Undead Hunter and Cavalier have cleric spells and can lay on hands.
Granted, the cleric spells come in handy at times, but most of these are buff spells, and without the spells, you can usually use a potion to roughly the same effect.
Lay on hands is nice, but there are really many potions of healing throughout the game (too many, perhaps...), and if you have a cleric, let him do the healing.
The Inquisitor on the other hand is the perfect wizardslayer. Any lich or wizard, as I've stated before, can be dispelled with 99% success at the 10th level (12 for liches) of the Inquisitor. And you all know just how long a mage without his protections up last in battle...
I will gladly give up some lowlevel cleric spells, lay on hand, a few plusses against certain creatures (have soloed Firkraag on Core with a 10th level Inquisitor - they aren't so tough without their stoneskins and haste) and protection from level drain, which imo isn't too relavent as it can be got through a lot of items or a 4th level cleric spell for the ability to dispose of the enemy mages of their buffs....and in ToB, is just might not just be mages that can get themselves stonskinned and protected by magical weapons...
Use your mages in the party to what they do best: disable the enemies or deal out a lot of raw damage.

Edit: about which kit suits the gods best, I would say Helm for the Inquisitors, Torm for the Undead Hunters and Tyr for the Cavaliers.

I have a few questions. First are you sure undead hunters get immunity to charm? And second you do realize that cavaliers get extra damage and thaco against dragons and DEMONS. which are a little more impressive than your average undead. With the proper equipment the cavalier can be stocking up on immunities to rival those of a berserker, relatively all but the immunity to maze and imprison, plus have elemental immunities as well, all this without losing really anything. What self-respecting paladin would ever use a bow anyway? Sure he might toss an axe in a pinch but a bow? as several dwarves will tell you, leaves the bows to the "danged longed eared elfs." pull out that big shiny sword, step through the fireball and cleave that mage in two. That's all the magekiller you really need. To defend the cavalier as a magekiller, my level 9 cavalier was able to kill a lich merely by standing there and taking what the lich dished out until he ran outta spells, and then hacked him up. though it helps that he used a spell or three on the demon he gated who wouldn't attack me due to my protection from evil.

in retrospect silvanerian is correct all paladins are immune to charm, anyone protected from evil should be, unless they changed it, it worked in BG1. nice for the sirines. You would still be charmed and the icon would be there but if you were protected from evil you would still have control of your character.
