Pool of Radiance: exiting and/or saving a game

Pool of Radiance (original floppies) works very well in a Win98 VM. Very cool.

However - how do you "exit to DOS" in the game? And/or how do you save it on the fly? Can we only exit/save in a tavern or when encamped?
